Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I had acute gastritis and went to the ER to get IV fluids. While there, they ran a test for H. pylori and it was positive. My only symptoms prior to the ER visit were frequent heartburn. I was given a prescription for Biaxin, amoxicillin, and omeprazole for 14 days. I got online and was horrified by the reviews. I delayed starting my meds. The first three days were hell on earth: nausea, fatigue, anxiety. I learned very quickly to eat with each dose. I had the metallic taste up until day 10, and then it went away. I'm wrapping up day 12, and while the treatment was tough in the beginning, it is doable. My GI is going to do an EGD in 60 days. I was also told to continue omeprazole for 2 months to heal ulcers and combat rebound reflux. Feeling better!"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Be your own advocate. I have had anemia, which leaves me fatigued for a very long time. I have suffered from severe bloating, pain, belching, and flatulence. I made an appointment a few weeks ago because I was having difficulty breathing and had severe bloating. I thought it was the arthritis. The blood work showed that my iron levels were 6 micrograms per deciliter. Normal levels for women range from 26 to 170. She has been prescribing me iron supplements for three years. On this particular visit, she sent me for some blood work, and it came back positive for Helicobacter. I was so glad to have a name that had caused me so much pain over the years. Since starting the medication, I have had pretty much all the side effects, including metallic taste in my mouth, severe bloating and pain, vivid dreams, insomnia, diarrhea, and most recently, itching. I am on day 12 of 14 and am looking forward to getting this nasty bacteria out of my system. Chewing gum has helped with the metallic taste."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Day 2 of H. pylori kit. At first, I thought something must be wrong with the drugs because they made my symptoms worse. I felt really terrible after day 1. But after reading reviews, I feel I'm not alone and will get through the treatment. My symptoms are bloating, passing gas, nausea, metallic aftertaste, fatigue, cramps, and excruciating pain in my tummy."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "After 2 months of increasing stomach pain, nausea, decrease in appetite; I went to the MD and tested positive for H. Pylori. I'm on day 5 of amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and prescription Prilosec. The taste in the back of my mouth is horrible, horrible, awful gas-I can't stand it myself, and some constipation. 9 more days to go!!"

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "In a period of a few years, I visited many doctors because of pain in my stomach. I was always hungry and felt very tired. Sometimes my belly was like a balloon without any reason. Until this doctor sent me for a blood test for Helicobacter pylori, and the results came out positive. I was very optimistic and was hoping this pain and problems would finally stop. I got the medicine on Saturday and started the treatment on Sunday morning. After taking it for 3 days, I noticed huge results, had more energy, and I was waking up fresh. A day after, I started having this sweet taste in my mouth, which scared me a little bit... maybe I got an infection. I continued taking this medicine, and on the 7th day of this treatment, I got a terrible headache and anxiety."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Soooo... after reading all the negative comments on amoxicillin/clarithromycin/lansoprazole, I can't say I disagree, however, it is definitely doable. I had to miss work due to bad abdominal cramping on day 3, and waking up with that nasty taste is whack. My appetite is fine, frankly, my cravings are always through the roof, and sadly my number one problem has only gotten worse... BLOATING. YETTTT... I am very positive, and it wasn't hard to get through, just an annoying inconvenience. Like an annoying toddler tugging at your trousers, who you need to remember to wake up every morning and put to bed every night. My course was 7 days, didn't take them at the same time every day, and for the clarithromycin, it was recommended to be taken every 12 hours, but my timing was not good. I also didn't follow the low FODMAP diet. Hopefully, an update will be pending and good results... even though I clearly wasn't perfect."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I was prescribed a 10-day course of amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and pantoprazole for H. pylori. I've had the same symptoms that most people have complained about. But it is important to finish the treatment to avoid bacterial resistance. Also, have your partner checked for H. pylori and treated, that way, you won't pass the disease back and forth through saliva and get re-infected, like happened to me."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Day 5. My neck hurts and my back and chest hurt, and it's hard to breathe. I have insomnia and no appetite, diarrhea, and chills every time I take it. I remember the Dr. saying some people's bodies can't handle it - if you feel weak, then skip a dosage and start again. Doesn't stop the side effects. Along with all that, I have headaches and a shooting pain in my left arm from time to time. I also feel weak and even dizzy, along with a sore throat that's red in places. I'm going to go see the Dr. when I get off work, 'cause I think it could be an infection, and that scares me, so maybe I'll go, maybe I'll suck it up and finish it."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "My H. pylori treatment differs from most since I am allergic to amoxicillin. I take 6 pills a day: 3 in the morning, 3 at night for 2 weeks, which are lansoprazole, Flagyl, and clarithromycin. The first day I had bloating and that horrible taste in my mouth, it didn’t taste metallic, but very sour. On the 2nd day I felt dizzy and nauseous and had a racing heartbeat when I tried to go to bed. I’m halfway through, and I still have bloating, a little appetite, nausea, and the aftertaste, no racing heart since the 2nd day, though. Yogurt and milk are helpful to settle your tummy. I’m hoping after the pills are all done, I will feel much better! Since I used to get on and off nausea and heartburn before I started treatment. Just keep taking the meds and suffer through the side effects. Also, the 3 meds I was prescribed cost me $122, I do not have insurance."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I'm on the last day of a 14-day treatment. A little bad taste, but it didn't last long. Doctor must have faith in Prevpac because I asked if I need to be retested, and he said no. A routine colonoscopy/upper endoscopy showed the presence of H. pylori. Still not sure how I was infected, I had an endoscopy 5 years ago and didn't have it then. My wife said better me than her, she could never have taken all this medication and was amazed at how well I tolerated the Prevpac 14-day treatment."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I am on day 12. I took the first dose in the evening, and the next morning I woke with the strong metallic taste in my mouth. That taste is there every morning, but I can easily wash it away with a drink of water. Around days 4-6, I had very loose stools from everything I ate. Since then, it has been off and on, but I have at least one loose stool every day. My H. pylori infection caused at least two ulcers, so I was experiencing a lot of nausea before, which has gradually improved with this medication-something must be working. This medication gave me really bad yeast infections (both oral and vaginal), but gargling with hydrogen peroxide a few times cleared it up. And treated the 'other' area. This medication has been tough, but still better than the H. pylori and ulcer symptoms."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I am on my 4th, going on 5th day of treatment, and I’ve had the worst side effect. I have trouble with my bowel movements already, so these pills make me really constipated to the point where I didn’t go for 4 days. Today, I woke up with the worst stomach cramps, so I decided to take a constipation med, and it took like 12 hours to work. The worst part is the taste! I hate it, and it gives me nausea so bad, and I feel it into my nose, and it’s super annoying. Overall, I’m not happy with this treatment, but oh well."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I'm on day three of Prevpac and was prescribed four pills equally for H. pylori, costing $841.00. I haven't had any major side effects besides swollen eyelids that went away in the morning. I was scared to take it after reading a lot of reviews, but it's worth the shot if it'll cure my stomach pains that I've had for 11 years!"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I'm on day 7 and have 7 days to go. From what I understand, after an infection like this, it's best to take it easy on your stomach and eat things that are easy to process. To the poster who said they have painful gas and bloating, I would consider drinking broth for a couple of days instead of solid foods and give your bowels and stomach a chance to really rest. Some foods can be intolerable to a body after this infection and can be too hard to deal with. Give it a few days or a week of soups and stewed fruits, and that should help. The diarrhea is likely going to continue while on these meds because they are really powerful, and all of them list that as a common side effect. Hang in there. I am halfway through and already feel fantastic if I don't count the heinous taste in my mouth, night and day. If your mouth tastes like someone dumped a load of bitter garbage into it, try some gum, don't eat sweets. Sweets are just what H. pylori like and are hard to digest. Good luck!"

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I have been taking Prevpac for a week now, and the horrible abdominal pain is long gone. :) However, I am experiencing rather unpleasant back pain as a side effect. I have been stretching like crazy trying to mitigate it, but it doesn't seem to be working. I am using ice packs and a portable TENS unit to deal with it. While not fun, it is a whole lot better than the agony of an H. pylori infection."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I am from Panama. I am very pleased with this treatment. I used to suffer from diarrhea every morning after breakfast and reflux in the evening. I have been using this treatment for 4 weeks, and I feel fine now. I am using Pepto-Bismol every time I take the pills and yogurt in between, and it avoids the secondary effects. The metallic taste is present every day, but I can live with it. Sorry for my English."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "After a year and a half of in-and-out stomach issues, the symptoms got worse and I got an emergency colonoscopy. After biopsy, H. pylori was proven. Was very happy to be diagnosed, but the next 14 days were so hard. I'm on the last day of treatment and still have nausea, tiredness, and headaches. Tired to an extent that I cannot walk more than 2 minutes. Not to mention the bad taste in my mouth. In between, my headache was so bad that I felt my brain was exploding. Got an urgent acupuncture done to get back to life. Then came Mother Nature, periods. The worst combination ever. Now I am afraid whether all these symptoms will go away and I can get back to normal. Fingers crossed this is the worst treatment."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I too have H. pylori, my symptoms were fatigue and a periodic bad taste in my mouth. Since I was on medication for my liver, I called and asked, “Are the liver meds causing this?” I was directed to Quest for a breath test. Proof positive! The three meds in conjunction are disgusting! In previous reads, I agree the road to wellness is far worse than the symptoms!"

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Yearlong pain was gone by day 3. But on day 4, the horrible side effects started. The awful taste in my mouth at all times, worsening constipation, headband headache, and up all night with insomnia. If it wasn't worth it to get rid of this stomach infection, I would quit taking this med. That's how bad these side effects combined are for me. If it was just one, and not at all the up all night insomnia, I would be much better."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Got diagnosed with H. pylori, then had an H. pylori kit with amoxicillin (total 4 medicines, 2 times a day, so total 8 medicines/day). It's a heavy dose, mouth taste is the worst, and yes, a headache! Headache! Headache! Sometimes right side, sometimes left, and sometimes full head, felt migraine pain during the course. Rest was okay, little bloating, nausea sometimes... Now today is my 4th day and hoping to get rid of this bloody H. pylori infection."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "My only symptom at first was no appetite! Ate one day, the next, didn't want to eat anything. Felt normal otherwise. One week later, I had lost 10 pounds. I noticed heart palpitations. Stopped taking Celebrex for my arthritis and all NSAIDs for migraines. Went to the hospital and had a complete workup on my heart, a CT scan, X-rays, blood work, stress test... all normal. In the third week, I was able to eat some. Started back on Celebrex. Two weeks later, lost appetite again with nausea. Lost 25 pounds. Had upper GI noted small hiatal hernia. Gastroenterologist did EGD with biopsy. Stomach was irritated from NSAIDs and H. Pylori. So, I started on Amox 500 two a day, Flagyl 3x a day, Carafate, Prilosec. Feel great. Retest next week."

Amoxicillin / clarithromycin / lansoprazole for Helicobacter Pylori Infection "After 2 days of Prevpac meds, I am quitting. My H. pylori is asymptomatic, but I felt let's get rid of this microbe. My first day, I had stomach pains and a headache. My stomach felt better day 2, but the headache stayed. The main reason for stopping is I'm getting vertigo. The first night a little bit, the second night spinning. If I went to this blog first, I would not have taken these meds. I just assumed I would handle it okay. My advice, unless you are very sick, do not take. It sucks!"
