"Two years ago I stopped taking a tricyclic antidepressant that I had been on for many years. It was difficult to do and left me with insomnia. Four months ago I had a UTI. I do not get them often. After the antibiotic treatment was completed and the infection gone, some pain and burning remained. I felt like I had a constant UTI. I saw a urologist and was not happy to be diagnosed with IC which is incurable. My goal had been to stay off of pharmaceutical medications. My urologist suggested I try the amitriptyline at 10 mg. Reluctantly I did try it and got quick relief - in one day. The other benefit is I am sleeping soundly again. I never expected it to do this well, and on such a low dose. After reading other reviews I realize this will be a lifelong medication. Happy for the relief."

"After 15 years of IC, I loved this drug. Unfortunately, after 7 months, it has made my urine extremely dark and gave me stomach cramps like I was dehydrated, which I wasn’t. Tachycardia symptoms, painful swollen breasts, chest pains, sore throat, migraines, and sore, itchy eyes were other daily side effects. After visiting the hospital recently and telling the doctor I had decided to stop taking it, she said it’s a nasty drug."

Amitriptyline "I have not experienced side effects with Elavil, and it has really helped to keep my Interstitial Cystitis in check. I am so thankful for it."

Amitriptyline "I take 25 mg at bedtime for interstitial cystitis, and it works great for me. It does take some time to get used to, and it makes you tired but after a month or so, I had no complaints."
