"Take as prescribed! Can save your life as far as the downward cycle that starts with stress, then no sleep, then more Stress, then less sleep, then depression, and repeat ad infitum. If taken safely, exercise, therapy, etc. YES."

Xanax (alprazolam) "I have suffered severe depression for years and was finally coming out of it with a cocktail of Lithium, Luvox and Epilim. When the anxiety kicked in my doctor prescribed Xanax which worked but the come down was the worst I have ever had. Just a personal experience on mixing drugs I guess."

"please listen to my advice - stay way from this medicine. It's dangerous instead play sport, enjoy your time, change your plans, travel, forget the past, try to do something in your life, and don't forget to play sport , if you become sport addict you will live a good life trust me"

Xanax (alprazolam) "I was initially diagnosed with severe depression. It was the drug of first choice to treat my extreme shyness. While on it I had troubles breathing. I was so dizzy and confused that at times I didn't even know where I was. I couldn't do anything. All I did was sleep. I was supposed to take it 3x a day but stopped before completing the treatment. Wouldn't recommend the experience to anyone. I honestly can't tell why some people take it for kicks or how they end up being addicted to it."

"One of the very few highly effective medications I have ever taken for TRD. It is a pity that this class of potentially effective medications has gotten such a bad reputation based on problems that only some who take it are known to exhibit. I found it to have slightly better antidepressant effects than equivalently dosed Clonazepam. However, I metabolize it fairly rapidly and had to deal with some inconvenience in terms of dosing frequency. My Psychiatrist was not a big fan of the extended release. However, that minor inconvenience is a very small price to pay for someone like myself who has found so few effective and tolerable treatments for depression, which also includes some pretty significant anxiety."

"I have taken Xanax for many years at a safe daily dose. I started in 2004 with 0.25 mg three times daily, having severe anxiety attacks while my dad was losing his battle with cancer. As the years progressed and I realized I have a big social anxiety issue, I stayed on Xanax. I couldn't function socially without it. Last year I was diagnosed with menieres disease which causes daily vertigo spells and constant roaring in my ear. My doctor increased my Xanax to .5 mg three times daily, as it helps with these symptoms. Not long ago I was diagnosed with clinical depression. I was put on Celexa but am hating the side effects. I took myself off Zoloft twice in the past because of the side effects. Xanax has truly been a life saver for me"

"As a person who suffers from insomnia because I can't get my mind to leave me alone at night, xanax (alprazolam) is most effective. I can take 1mg at bedtime and experience the most restful sleep, waking the next morning calm, but alert and refreshed. I also experience anxiety and it seems that 1mg at night carries over to the next morning to help calm me. However, this drug is addictive and, if stopped without a Doctor's supervision, a person may suffer from withdrawals and it is possible that withdrawals could lead to seizures and/or stroke. STOPPING COLD TURKEY IS NOT ADVISED AND MAY LEAD TO DEATH. If you take xanax regularly, DO NOT STOP TAKING IT WITHOUT CONSULTING A PHYSICIAN regardless of where or how you get it."

"To me Xanax was a lifesaver. In August 2011 I suddenly collapsed and was in hospital for 2 weeks and then had about 6 months of tests which I was finally diagnosed with vestibular lesion which is ringing in ears and balance disorder due to a problem with nerves. I was only getting 2 hours a night sleep on 5 Valium due to this and my body would just jerk most the time iI was about to go to sleep.I was starting to think life not worth living. I came across Xanax with my friend giving me 0.5mg early 2013 and i had my best sleep in 18 months. I spoke to my doctor and he agreed in my situation that xanax would be helpful as it does calm the nerves so 42 months later still taking but now been on 1mg for past 18 months and now have some life."

"Xanax is a great medicine when taken moderately and carefully. I take 2 to 4 mg every once in a while to relieve stress, anxiety, depression, and boredom. Although alprazolam is incredibly effective I must warn that it is also extremely dangerous when taking too much or, if taken for a long period. Secondly, it works great for panic attacks but don't forget that if you stop taking the medication your stress and anxiety will return with a brutal vengeance. "

"I have been diagnosed with bi polar 2 with depression and anxiety. I have been on all sorts of medications. But due to my asthma I had to be taking off of them. Right now I'm on Tripitel 150mg twice a day and 0.25 xanax twice a day and it has been a life changing for me. I have no side effects at all. I haven't had a anxiety attack or a panic attack in 1 1/2 years."

"I've been on several SSRIs the past years, but none of them managed to work for my depression as a monotherapy. For my depression, it is necessary to associate SSRIs + Alprazolam. If I am not taking alprazolam, I start to feel depressed and anxious. So this drug really works great for me and I am glad to take it. It allows me to live very well, without being stressed about everything."

"My doctor prescribed this to me for the depressive episodes (as part of my bipolar dx). At 0.5mg, that was sufficient to stop crying, but I was exhausted, mentally. Perhaps numb. Not sure if it was from the depression/crying or the medicine. At 1mg, it knocks me out. I now use it mainly for insomnia, and no more than once a week. Any more than 0.5mg at 11pm and I will not get up on time for work. Because this is my own use, I confided in a friend (who had a stroke) and he confessed he had been doing the same thing until his MD stopped him. I believe insomnia may be a good use for this medicine IF USED CORRECTLY. I know it may have addictive potential. Monitor yourself."

"alprazolam is good for sleep. I read a review that said weight gain. Don’t think so, probably the opposite unless you take them all day watching TV eating little Debbies cakes. Then I can see why the weight gain"

"I took Xanax for about 10 years for severe anxiety. It definitely is a miracle pill however I got hooked on it very easily. As my body built up a tolerance, I had to take more. I was physically ill and had horrible rebound anxiety if I didn’t have any pills to take. I’m aware that not everyone gets hooked on it but just be very careful. Xanax is an easy fix but there are other avenues to explore before taking this."

"Great medicine. I have done 3 years in prison for knowing about a crime, I didn't do, but I knew all about it. I couldn't go out in public without xanax. I felt like all eyes were on me. I extremely felt like someone was always after me. Xanax has made life a little better to deal with but at times I still have bad nightmares and night sweats. Maybe if they can find another medicine to take with the xanax my life would be so fun and back to normal."

"Xanax helps improve my mood, but only when I'm really anxious. Otherwise, it does nothing for my mood and actually causes my psychomotor retardation to become worse. If your depression is heavily influenced by your anxiety, this drug will probably work well for you. Otherwise, unless your depression causes significant agitation, I'd suggest staying away from this drug."

"Once again the pharmaceutical companies or insurance carriers have full control over my mental well being. TEVA needs to research how long of a taper off should last while adding the, new, approved and more expensive drug . I had horrible withdrawal when Deseryl was taken off the market and it's generic (non) equivalent Trazadone. Now prompted as a sleep aide. Completely different drug. Then I was forced to experiment around with the different SSRI, SNRI's that are on the market. This will be the forth change of medications due to the generic not really being the chemical equivalent. Deplorable lack of understanding of drug withdrawal and transitioning to another. How much time will it take to find one that is effective with tolerable side effects. How much time will I tolerate the absolute disregard for their consumers."

"I've never really considered this drug an anti-depressant and honestly did not think it was prescribed for such. I have bipolar II disorder which means that I'm a rapid cycling manic-depressant (the non-politically correct term) but mainly have chronic depression. I take this for PTSD, panic/anxiety attack, social anxiety disorder, and overall stress and anxiety. It works well for all of the above."

"alprazolam definitely helps TMJ. Helps the anxiety for the most part. I have built some immunity to it though I notice my depression is extremely worse in the morning I’m pretty sure that my tolerance is high for sedatives now as I’ve woken up during a colonoscopy and had to have extra sedation for translam epidural. I’ve been taking it for a lot of years. I was almost off of it but I was having trouble with the med they give you to control side effects as going off of it without a psychiatrist’s help can really be bad for you (seizures, heart issues). The withdrawal is pure nightmare material without any help. The bf took his life at that time also so back to square one. I do wish the doctors would stress how addictive this medication is. Only a few should be prescribed at one time. Taken three days and you will be weaning yourself off. I have noticed memory issues though Good luck to all"

"Terrible. Didn’t help. Didn’t notice a thing. Took .50 and it didn’t help at all, except with sleeping. The next day I felt absolutely AWFUL. Depressed, completely foggy and miserable, unable to function. Couldn’t believe I had rebound anxiety from taking this medication ONCE. It doesn’t even make you feel relaxed or ANYTHING. Might as well have just had a sugar pill only worse because somehow it produced a hangover."

Xanax (alprazolam) "Not only does a 0.5mg shut down racing thoughts and anxiety, it reduces depression. Been on every other antidepressant out there with awful side effects. Don't need to take it every day."
