Fosamax (alendronate) for Osteoporosis "I took 3 Alendonate pills for my osteoporosis. Three days after my second pill, I began to experience some general pain and flu-like symptoms, but did take the third pill not knowing what was wrong. In a few more days, I literally could not walk because of the severe pain in my right knee and my right hip. I have only mild RA in my right knee, none in my hip. That was 4 months ago. I am currently just beginning to get my mobility back. What a horrid experience this has been. My doc now wants me to try Prolia. What??? Never. I did report my experience to the FDA."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "I was in pretty good shape working out 3 to 4 days a week, never really having any bone problems. My doctor prescribed Alendronate sodium for me supposedly to prevent osteoporosis because I am taking prednisone. I took it twice as instructed. By that night I felt some pains. Through the night it got worse, but figured it would settle down. OMG !! That next day , I felt like a can that was being crushed. I felt like I was going to be paralyzed from my right arm, through my hip , in my groin area, and my right shin and leg was numb and still is. My right side still hurts after 5 months or more. Spent a whole day in the emergency room where the same doctor was on duty. The doctor tried to say it seemed like it was my back nerve. Barely gave me anything for the pain. I stay in pain. I need a attorney about this because my insurance will not pay for an MRI . AND Though it's not as bad I believe it has caused permanent damage "

For Osteoporosis "I was prescribed this medication by my rheumatologist for osteoporosis. (I have RA) During the first few months I noticed bloating and some random aches but it was minor. Now 4 months in I have gained 16lbs, I get random jolts of pain in my head, knees and hands. Sometimes light sensitive and have a thickness in my throat. My finger nails keep splitting and peeling and I feel dizzy (vertigo symptoms) and tired. I will not be continuing this and will speak to my PCP about increasing calcium and vitamin D instead."

For Osteoporosis "I have osteoporosis in my left hip, My doctor prescribed alendronate I took it 4 weeks the 2nd day I started having and continue to have hip, back, arm and leg pains. I did not have any pain before the meds. I went back to the doctor he said my side effects were not normal and to keep trying for 4 more weeks.. I have not continued it, I see no reason to continue something that has only caused me intense pain. I have a very high tolerance for pain but I hurt all the time now. I exercise by walking 2+ miles every day, it is helping but if I miss a day the pain is twice as bad again. I do not want to see or even think about of what another 4 weeks would do to my body."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "I started taking Alendronate 70 mg pill as prescribed. The next morning I woke up with severe heartburn and belching. Then I started feeling the urge to vomit. All I could bring up was phlegm and a foamy liquid. I had a very bad acidly taste in my mouth. I finally called my doctor and was told to stop taking the Alendronate and stay on a clear liquid diet. My joints hurt, my jawbone and teeth hurt, back pain and severe indigestion. After 6 hours I was still vomiting. My doctor prescribed Zofran to calm my stomach. I started feeling better so tried eating. It's been 5 days and I'm still having indigestion after eating and pain in my feet and hands. I hope this nasty medicine is out of my system soon!"

Fosamax (alendronate) for Osteoporosis "I have just taken my 4th weekly Fosamax pill. For 3 weeks I have been exhausted. I am active and now I don’t feel like doing things. I’m making myself walk. I have trouble sleeping. This is also new. My son looked at me yesterday and told me I look very tired. He’s right. I have also had the expected increased heartburn. I already have GERD and take medication for it. I don’t have any of the pain others describe. I wish there was another option. I have -2.9 in T3 T4."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "I have been on alendronate for 3 months for osteopenia. I take 70mg once a week. The first two weeks were fine, then the side effects came with a vengeance! Severe back pain that lasts for days, ever-present thigh pain, ear pain, dry mouth, eye pain, headaches and an annoying fatigue. I plan on finishing up the third month then calling my doctor. Though right now I don't think there's anything she can say that would convince me to continue taking this."

For Osteoporosis "I was on alendronate for 2 years. I had one side effect: constipation. That's it, that's enough. No other side effects. I was irritated having to take a pill every week, early in the morning sitting up. My doctor suggested having an infusion once a year. I jumped on it. No side effects whatsoever. I've had 2 treatments. Did said medication help prevent fractures? No, lifting my bedroom window in May 2023 caused T11-12 vertebral fractures. X-rays showed I now have arthritis in my back. I NEVER had back pain until I fractured my vertebrae."

This prompted me to read reviews and don’t understand why this is prescribed after reading these reviews. My teeth felt so sensitive! I’m calling my doctor and not taking this again."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "I too, took this drug to help strengthen my bones, for just a little over a year. I thought it was great, it was gonna help. Well it was just the opposite. I suffered a spontaneous fracture of my left femur. Never felt pain like that in my life. After inserting the 18 inch or more rod in the femur, I had to miss work to go to a rehab for 3 weeks. This is one drug I will never recommend to anyone..."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "After my second stress fracture in a foot I started taking this, 70 mg a week. Initially I had some issues with restless legs but that went away. After about 3 weeks I started to get some bloating. The bloating is now worse than before I stopped eating gluten. I took it for 7 weeks, but now I'm done."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "I took my first 70mg yesterday morning. I didn't want to start this medicine but I got scared when I woke up and my neck felt like it shattered like a branch breaking off, I could hear it and feel it. I already had a neck plate at c5 and c6. Since taking just one pill yesterday morning, I am miserable. I have had severe nausea since and I'm so bloated even at 106 pounds. I'm so fatigued and have always had severe bone pain because I was recently diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis recently and lupus. I'm not going to take it anymore after reading all the reviews. I'm scared that more side effects will show up after taking one pill. I'm going to start back at the gym, using the treadmill, and light weights. I'm 63 and I'm pretty mobile considering all my health issues. Also, I think I have long covid. During my second covid, I could barely walk because of severe joint pain from it or it's possible I'm doomed from one moderna vaccine. I never finished my vaccines and won't."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "Three hours after taking the first pill I had severe chest and back pain, some nausea, and indigestion. My chest felt painful, and the pain lasted throughout the night and early the next morning however by the afternoon I felt better. Two days later I have minimal chest pain, and the back pain has lessened but the indigestion is still lingering. I hope these symptoms do not last."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "I have been taking Alendronate for 13 weeks. My bones have started hurting so bad I can’t stand it. I started wondering if it was this medication, read the side effects and sure enough, that’s the problem. I won’t be taking another one, and hopefully this pain will go away. I would not recommend this drug."

For Prevention of Osteoporosis "Taking Fosamax on a regular basis took me from having full-blown osteoporosis into barely having osteopenia! The only downside was that I still have some signs of osteopenia, and because I need to have my ninth major spinal surgery, whereupon I will have Harrington rods from the base of my skull to my pelvis, is that, in preparation for the surgery, I have spent the last four months (and will spend the next two months, possibly continuing out to a complete year), going to the doctor's office once a week for shots in each arm in order for second medication supplementing Fosamax in order to build up my bone strength even further."

Fosamax (alendronate) for Osteoporosis "I have only been on Fosamax for seven weeks and so far have had no adverse effects. The only possible effect I've noticed is that my fingernails seem to be growing a lot faster than they previously did. I am 82 years old and very active and the only "symptom" I've had is morning low back pain which so far still persists. My doctor suggested treatment with Fosamax after a test he ordered following my last PE."
