For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "A year and a half ago, my BF went to New Mexico. While he was there, he contracted HSV-2. When he came back, he was honest about having the virus. I never saw an outbreak on him, so I thought he was paranoid. Last weekend, I noticed that I had burning after intercourse. By Monday, I was sure I had an outbreak. It burned when I urinated and felt like the bottom of my vagina was on fire. Tuesday, I went to the doctor, and she said it looked like herpes. I'm 39 years old. She prescribed acyclovir 400 mg 3x. This is my first day. So far, the burning is persistent, and the itchiness is driving me insane. Any ideas???"

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "I am 43. I just recently got diagnosed with HSV-2 with two previous false negative tests. It sucks not to know when and where you got the infection from. I've never seen any breakouts on anyone I've been with, but I'm seeing you can contract this even with a condom. I have breakouts in more than one place: inner labial, outer labial, which I thought was an ingrown hair infection. I also have a breakout in the anal area, but mostly the upper part of the crack, which is weird. I hate this. I've been with my boyfriend for 7 years. He said he had a cold sore before, but I don't think he gave it to me, by me having two false tests. I'm so ashamed as I'd rather have had gonorrhea or chlamydia if I had to suffer from an STD as you can get rid of those. I haven't been able to share this news with my boyfriend as I'm afraid of how he may react, he has really been tripping about this COVID virus. But I may have had this for awhile, and luckily I've never transmitted it, and this is my first time with actual blisters."

Acyclovir for Herpes Simplex, Suppression "If you take just one pill when you begin to feel a tingle, you won't actually get a cold sore/fever blister. It's seriously amazing! I wish I had known about this sooner. I will get a cold sore if I travel a lot or if I have any minor trauma on or around my nose/mouth. One pill when I feel it coming on stops them from forming, but you have to catch it before the blister develops. Keep taking the pill until the tingling goes away. I've never had to take more than 1 pill per occurrence."

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "I have been on Acyclovir for 3 days following a first outbreak of genital herpes - having never suffered with anxiety or depression, I've been crying about an hour after taking each pill. Feeling anxious, depressed, sweating, abdominal pain, short-tempered, and very nauseous. Mood swings aren't in the side effects but they should be, as countless other people on similar forums have experienced the same."

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "Since early childhood, I've gotten painful and gross cold sores. Just awful. In my nose sometimes, down my chin... yuck. I hate this virus. I tried all the wacky home remedies... yeah, that battery-powered silvery piece of rubbish. I figured I'd just be Quasimodo every 3 or 4 months and just deal with it. :( Until Acyclovir 800. What IS this stuff?!?! It's magic, that's what it is. YMMV, I personally have to take 4 at the first tingle to stop it 'cold.' It never gets red, never gets to blister. Certainly not that fun cracked, bleeding horror show round about day 6 without this stuff. So to make a long story longer, get Acyclovir 800. An interesting side effect is that I also have fewer, and less severe outbreaks. Thanks for reading."

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "I became very irritated down there to the point it hurt to go to the bathroom. I scheduled an appointment for the doctor, and they told me I had a yeast infection. I then noticed bumps down there, and they tested for HSV2 (herpes simplex 2) that came back positive. Currently, day 3 of acyclovir, and I am so happy to almost be back to myself. The pain I went through was unbearable... had to call out of work several times because I could barely walk. We will see how this medicine works for me over time."

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "I started taking acyclovir 2 days ago, and I already feel better. My outbreak is 90% clear, and so far, no side effects. I take 800 mg 5 times a day for 7 days... Oh, and I take it for having shingles, which is like herpes."

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "Prescribed for cold sore outbreaks, three 400 mg tabs per day, took for 2 days; my heart is racing, cannot concentrate, blood pressure 157/91. My blood pressure was 120/74 two days prior to using this medication, a general feeling of unwellness."

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "I found out I contracted genital herpes from an ex-boyfriend about 5 years ago. It initially felt like a cut on my vagina that itched and burned. Went to the doctor the next day and sure enough-herpes (ugh). I take the medicine as needed and it works like a charm. If I do feel one coming, I take 400 mg three days for about 4-5 days. Clears right up. I also used to get cold sores a few times a year-haven't since taking this medicine. It's AMAZING. Just wish I never had to find out about it."

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "If you get a cold sore outbreak in your mouth, don't walk, run to the nearest medical practitioner that can give you a prescription of Acyclovir. Usually, an outbreak would last me 3 weeks with just using over-the-counter creams. With the medication, my mouth was back to normal after 4 days."

For Herpes Zoster "I have herpes zoster (shingles) in internal, inner ear. Damage to both trigeminal and occipital nerve. Facial paralysis. This medicine possibly saved my life, and the capsule form worked much better than the tablet form for me. It does give me some side effects such as an upset stomach and a weird energizing feeling (less with capsule for me), but if you truly need the medicine, please take it. This virus, if left untreated, can destroy your health and well-being and possibly kill you. Do not underestimate what it can do to your body."

For Herpes Simplex, Suppression "I don't know how I got infected with genital herpes - I was with someone who didn't have it, so I can only assume it had laid dormant for a number of years when someone else had given it to me. The first outbreak was 10 years ago, but was just an itchy spot in my pubic area close to my panty line. The second outbreak came a month or so later and was just a couple of blisters. When I was diagnosed, my whole world collapsed. I was in therapy for 2 years, it really hit me hard. I've taken acyclovir twice a day since then. I haven't had an outbreak, but some days I still get the tingling and ache around my pubic area. On those days, I get very low and upset. I may try a different drug."

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "My fiancé and I discovered, in the beginning of our relationship, that we both had genital herpes. My first outbreak was the ABSOLUTE worst experience; I was so sick. We suffered for 2 years, had constant breakouts, and then finally we decided to both respectively take acyclovir. Doses are 800 mg tablet every day, and honest to goodness, it was a miracle drug. We have been on it for 3 months now, and except for an occasional itch here and there that lasts for a day and then goes away, neither of us have had the lesions or the terrible symptoms. We do not take it when we feel symptoms; instead, we take 800 mg every day, possibly for the rest of our lives, but that's okay so long as we never have to experience another outbreak!!"

Acyclovir for Cold Sores "Took one ten-day course of this antiviral over seven years ago and have never had even a hint of another fever blister symptom ever since. I felt better after the first week, and remarkably stronger after completing the 10-day prescription. Next best thing to a cure."

For Cold Sores "I'm a 35-year-old female who has suffered from cold sores for so long I have pictures of me as a 3-year-old with them, almost every yearbook picture, me with a cold sore. Every period, stressed, every holiday. I was prescribed Acyclovir at 33 years old after giving birth to my first child. I had an outbreak and worried about my son catching the virus from me (herpes is dangerous/deadly for infants) as my mother was so irresponsible when I caught it young. It's amazing, I remember thinking as a small child if given 3 wishes, one would be never to get cold sores again. I'd been on it and hadn't experienced one in almost 2 years. I'm very grateful I'd never experienced ocular or genital herpes and have great sympathy for those who do. Acyclovir is a miracle for me."

For Herpes Simplex, Suppression "As long as I am taking it, it works wonderfully. However, if I can't afford to get a refill, within ten days I have a flare-up. That just tells me that a) I am right to be on suppression therapy, and b) the medicine works."

For Herpes Simplex, Suppression "I'm 32 years old, and I first got outbreaks when I was about 13 or so. I would get them maybe once every year or so on my lip. They started getting more frequent, and I ended up getting outbreaks around my nostril too. Over the last few years, they got very frequent, about every other month. I've tried lysine ointments, home remedies, nutritional supplements, Abreva, but none prevent outbreaks. Then in Dec 2015, I had a horrible outbreak. The size of a quarter! I had enough. I read up on treatments, and my doctor prescribed the Acyclovir suppressive therapy. I only take one 400 mg tablet a day. It's August, and I haven't had an outbreak since Dec! It's cheap, about $8 and change. I have no side effects at all. I am so happy I found this!"

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "I was getting many cold sores every year. I would take Acyclovir as soon as the numbness started. It never shortened the duration; never had any effect on the pain. The cold sores just kept getting worse. The doctor finally put me on a stronger anti-viral. It did nothing either. I only got headaches from the anti-virals. I finally decided to try vitamin D. I haven't had a cold sore in at least 2 years."

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "I used to get cold sores rarely, but more stress, and it's been a nightmare! On top of that, I kept missing work whenever I got breakouts (for a week at a time) because I'm a spokesmodel. I started to get desperate because I couldn't be reliable for work and started losing huge amounts of my income. Plus, cold sores are a major bummer to go through. Finally talked to my doctor. I've been taking only 200 mg a day. Then, a few days ago, I took a chance and tanned my face, and whammo, I started getting a breakout. As soon as it came on, I dosed up the acyclovir and iced it for 2 hours. This stopped the sore in its tracks. It disappeared completely, and I am cold sore free! I can't tell you how relieved I am at how well this medicine works!"

Acyclovir for Cold Sores "I have used this product for a year. The biggest problem with this medication is finding a pharmacy that can get it. I have only had to order it twice. The first time was from one big pharmacy. When I went to get it refilled, they couldn't get it. I then found a local small-town pharmacy. I was able to order it one time, tried to re-order it, and they can no longer get it. I will find another place to buy it. This is the only thing that I can honestly say works. I have had four flare-ups in a year. Only one time did it not take it away within a few hours. And that is because I didn't catch it soon enough. It does work better when you use it as soon as you feel a cold sore coming on. I highly recommend this pill if you can get it. Use the coupon."

For Mononucleosis "Hope that my information will be read by doctors and the creators of that wonderful and reliable website. I would like to tell that for me, Acyclovir is sometimes not working while taken as pills, but it ALWAYS works very well when given in the form of infusions. Of course, the doctor must fit the amount of the days when the drips will be given to a patient (it is usually 5-6 days up to 10 days) to the amount of the virus. But it always works - I recovered from the EBV thanks to that five times. I am proof it always works this way."

For Cold Sores "Skip the Abreva and ask your doctor to prescribe a bottle of this stuff instead. It's the only thing that really works. I rarely get bad cold sores, but I just got hit with a really terrible one. Came on so fast I barely had time to take this pill in time. I've read that acyclovir only works if you haven't blistered yet, which had already happened. It still worked pretty well. It definitely changed how the cold sore is healing. It went straight from 'puffing' up into a blister to scabbing over. It also seems to be reducing the redness and swelling. I'm taking it 3x daily in conjunction with L-Lysine, and occasionally dabbing the cold sore with alcohol to dry it up. Overall, really happy with this medication."

For Herpes Simplex (HSV) "Have had HSV2 for 30 years and take Acyclovir 400 mg for episodic outbreaks. In the 'early years,' I used Zovirax ointment, which is very good, but the tablets are better as you take the medication early, before the dreadful outbreak, in the form of Acyclovir 400 mg, 2-3 times daily for 3-5 days has been an unbelievable blessing. It is a horrible disease, but Acyclovir makes it bearable."

For Herpes Simplex, Suppression "I wasn't told by my sexual partner that they had herpes. I got very ill and was having reproductive problems at the time. I had a few blister-type spots, and I went to the doctor, got acyclovir, and it went away within 2 days. It's been over a month or 2 now, and it hasn't come back. But he went and continued infecting unsuspecting women. I'm 21."

For Herpes Simplex, Suppression "Since using acyclovir for the last year/year and a half, my breakouts have decreased more than half, especially during stressful times. The last 6 months, I've been breakout-free. I give this medicine a 9 out of 10 because it's not a cure but a prevention. When they find a cure for this horrible disease, I'll rate it a 10."
