Hello,
I started on 25 mg of sertraline for one week then took 50mg the next week and the third week I am currently on 75 mg. I noticed my hair falling out ALOT at the end of the second week (while taking 50 mg). I am 23 year old male and have always had thick hair and no one in my family has had any issues with hair loss. The hair that falls out are long strands with the white bulb attached at the end. I have also noticed that my hair appears to be lighter in color and turning almost white at the tips. Also very thin! I used to be prescribed to adderall and that stuff made my hair fall out like crazy when I took it in the same way that it is falling out with the zoloft. I only used the adderall for studying, so when I didn't use the adderall my hair returned to normal and stopped falling out. So I know that the hair loss I'm experiencing is due to the zoloft because it started falling out as soon as the medicine got into my system, my hair was completely fine before I started the zoloft. I feel that the zoloft (sertraline) is starting to work good for my anxiety and I don't want to stop taking it but I want to keep my hair! So my question is, is this hair loss a temporary side effect? Will the hair loss stop once my body gets adjusted to the sertraline (zoloft)? Has anybody else experienced this? If this is just temporary I would definitely be willing to wait it out.
Does Zoloft (sertraline) cause hair loss?

I have been on Zoloft 50mg for 6 months now. I also have experienced a lot of hair loss, much more than normal. I do not have bald patches, they just come out from around the scalp.
I have experienced even weirder thing. I alsways had curly hair, but after 2-3 months on zoloft they are becoming more straight! I have never had hair like this before! A couple of strands still curl (but much less) and some are just straight! I look weird and I don't know what to do. I hope my hair will go to normal after I finish my treatment.
Has anyone experienced that?
Hi All - I have been taking Sertraline for about 6 weeks now after a surge of intense anxiety and happy to say that I feel so much calmer but a new stress is the amount of hair loss that I only noticed 3 days ago which happens first thing in the morning and when I brush my hair? Maybe it's the Sertraline but maybe I am still more stressed than I feel? I have started taking B12 vitamins and have been online and ordered some shampoo which is 'supposed' to help with hair loss - we'll see! Hopefully this is just a temporary thing for everyone as I'm so scared about losing my hair :-(
Same thing happened to me... I lost my curly hair too! It was always thick too! I’m on 200 mg of sertraline for past 6 months increased from 150 mg... I see this was posted 3 years ago but hoping for response... to if u discontinued Zoloft and your hair and curl returned.
Hi
Are u guys on the Generic sertraline?
OR Brand name Zoloft.
?
It sounds like its the generic causing the hair loss.
I took the Brand name Zoloft from May 2000 till 2004 never lost a hair ... it was a low dose 25mgs.
I am having the same exact problem. It's started in the past 2 months. And Zoloft is the drug I take as well. It sucks. I'm hoping it is temporary as I've never had an issue with my hair. I've even started looking into a "plan b" of supplements for hair loss just in case.
Hello there ... I have been on just about everything you could be on for these illnesses and I know of several others who take zoo ft and I have never heard of this. Maybe it's stress or if you want ask your dr. To see what they say. Sometimes with my Oct I tend to let such things run together. Hopefully it will go away very quickly.
I have also experienced some hair loss, but I personally feel like it was the initial stress that caused it.
I've been on Sertraline (Zoloft) for over a year and have only recently had issues with my hair.
The best thing I can say is try a shampoo/ conditioner that has "kerotin" and keep up with the vitamins.
Glad to see your anxiety has been relieved!
Interesting, I take 100 mg of Zolofont and in the last 12 months my hair is starting to thin. Pointless discussing this with your Doctor as they are overworked at seeing 50 odd people a day. There must be a vitamin for healthier hair. G
I have been taking Zoloft for 4months 100 mg.I feel better but I am losing my hair so bad.i had very thick and long beautiful hair, now it's coming out. To the point my family is scared for me. its terrible and I am freaking out it's everywhere cilumps and clumps.if anyone knows anything that can help PLEASE HELP ME. I am going to stop taking it.the Dr wanted to put me on 200mg I would probably be bald if I had listened to him.
My hair started falling out too. My hair was well past my shoulders, and now it's up to the nape of my neck. It really helps with my anxiety and panic attacks, but seeing your hair attached at the root coming out every day is stressful, and I take Biotin too.
My hair was fine until I switched to generic zoloft. When I was on name brand had no problem. Name brand got too expensive. Think I'm going back rather than lose my hair. Right now 100 mg sertraline by north star.
