I have recently had a hip replacement and was put on xarelto for a month after surgery during this time I have had a lot of hair loss every time I combed my hair I'd get a handful. I finished the medication yesterday but it just dawned on me the other day maybe the xarelto was causing it as that is the only new medication/change after reading these post I'm sure the xarelto caused it I am going to call the 800 number and report as a side effect

I called and made a report I finished the medication yesterday so if my hair loss stops (give it a little bit to get out of my system). I will know for sure it was the xarelto that caused it

I have been on Xarelto since Dec 2013. I had THICK hair and have notice that my pony tail is really thin now. I have tons of hair loss in the brush, car, my chair and bath tub. I was looking up this side effect when I came to the above comments.

I have been on Xarelto since Oct. 2013 since I had a hip ball replacement. I have experienced hair loss that has never occurred before. I have a thick head of hair and have discontinued the use of Xarelto because I fear it will be permanent. (Both my now deceased parents used Coumadin and experienced severe hair loss that was permanent). I have reported this side effect to the 800 number provided in another comment for my experience with Xarelto. I encourage others to do so and see if it's included in their possible side effects. I doubt these handful are the only ones.

I started on xarelto this past July, I had long thick hair. This is the only new medicine I am taking. I have had tremendous hair loss, handfuls each time I comb or brush my hair. I am getting deeply concerned since I still threw emboli on lovenox and Coumadin. I am going to send email and/call drug company this week.

Francis55. Did you find any information. All I get are shoulder shrugs from my Dr.

I contacted the Jansen drug company at 1-800-526-7736 and reported SEVERE hair loss with Xarelto. I was told this is not a KNOWN side effect ,but I do NOT believe them. The rep was nice and only there to take my report and pass it on. She did encourage ALL who experience CALLshrugged the 1-800-526-7736 report this hair loss. PLEASE call this company. My doctor just shrugged, but I have decided to demand my doc put me back on Lovenox ( injection 100mg daily) to try to stop this loss before I have none lefT!!! Debby

Me too. Started losing gobs of hair after 4 weeks into treatment on Xarelto, and has been ongoing for 8 weeks now. Have lost more than half of my hair to date.

Additional side effect experienced is loss of sensation in much of my skin.

Docs are unsure what the cause or the fix is - have ruled out anemia.

Consider having your iron checked - iron deficiency can be related to hair loss (unfortunately not in my case!). Thanks!

I have been checked for everything. Nothing has come up in all the testing but I am still losing hair. Xarelto and prilosec are the only medication I am on now. I normally have very thick hair. It is very thin now. I am still losing hair everyday. But the loss has slowed down a little. I have been on it for 6 months now. Dr. still blames it on stress from the surgery I had last April. Just doesn't make sense to me.

I started Xarelto 6 weeks ago and within 2 weeks noticed losing so much hair. At first I didn't put it together, but a friend asked about new meds and it is only med I am on. I am also experiencing high levels of white blood cells in urine with NO bacteria they call it sterile pyuria and it started about 3 weeks ago. All of this started after Xarelto, but not listed as side effects noted prior. I had urine culture today and when I get more detailed results and talk to doc next week will seriously discuss Xarelto as cause.

I have been taking Xarelto for 4 months now since July 2014 due to a pulmonary embolism . I have lost so much hair and it just keeps getting worse. My doctor checked my thyroid and iron and they are both fine. I am not taking any other new medications. the doctors and pharmacist say it's not a known side effect and I'm headed to the dermatologist over the weekend as that is the next step. I had lost hope of finding the reason for this hair loss until reading your comments. Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I will be calling the 800 number tomorrow morning. I only have to be on it for 2 more months and my concern is, will it grow back when I'm off the meds. Trina, Norwalk CT

Trina 71, just wondering what the Dermatologist said. Are you still on the meds? Thanks Hessie 28

I took Debbie's advice from back in 2013 and called Jensen Drug Company. To my surprise, 3-1/2 years later, after tons of blogs on hair loss, they still have NO COMPLAINTS OF ISSUES such as this. People need to call. I have lost so much hair on Xarelto, I don't even look like "me". Please call and save yourself and others.

For those calling the drug company, you would be better served calling the FDA and filing a consumer report concerning hair loss. If enough people report the problem, the FDA will make the drug company conduct a new study.

After 2 months on Xarelto and losing hunks of hair daily I went back on Coumadin. After days I am only losing a couple of strands a day. Thank goodness my Doctor believed me. Same thing happened last year on Eliquis.

Me too. Since starting Xarelto in June my hair has changed texture; it has become fine and dull.
It is also falling out at an alarming rate. My GP is not interested.
I am brushing hairs off my keyboard as I write
