My 23 year old son has been in rehab twice in the past two years and was released from the last treatment center 3 months ago. His drugs of choice were hydrocodone, oxycontin, methamphetamine, and marijuana. He has started to fall into old patterns that make his wife and I concerned that he may be using again. He maintains that he is clean, and has agreed to take a 12 screen urine drug test. My question is if his prescribed medications (doxepin as a sleep aid, clonazapam for anxiety, and zoloft for depression) will show up on the screen and if so, under what categories (ie: opiates, barbituates, etc.)?
Will doxepin, clonazapam, or zoloft show positive on a drug screening, and under what category?

"Nearly all TCAs can cause false-positive UDS results. Amitriptyline, desipramine, doxepin, and imipramine have been reported to cause false-positive results for LSD,3 and desipramine and doxepin have additionally been reported to cause false-positive results for amphetamines."
"Doses of sertraline (Zoloft) exceeding 150 mg/day could lead to false positive benzodiazepine urine drug screens."
I would have the urine screen performed at a laboratory that is aware of the prescription medications he is taking. Take the prescription bottles to the screening.
I wish people would stop posting things without prior knowledge. Clonazepam is a benzo, and will definitely show up. Any drug that ends with PAM is in a benzo class. Zoloft, otherwise known as sertraline has proven to show a false positive for benzos in researched studies. But the clonazepam would already show anyways. Doxepin is known as a hypnotic by working on H1 receptors, which is histamine. It is a tricyclic antidepressant, but is used off label for insomnia (similar to trazodone). However, since its a hypnotic and not a sedative, there should be no concerns with false positives.
The clonazapam will probably show up as a benzodiazipine and the doxepin as a sedative. I'm not absolutely sure but this is my best guess. Good luck.
The zoloft won't show up, but the clonazepam and sleep medicine will. But he should be ok if he was prescribed those meds.
I will be the one administering and reading this home drug test. Do you know what categories clonazepam and doxepin will show up under? Like opiates, barbituates, etc.?
Clonazepam will show up under the Benzodiazepines & it will detail what drug is in his/her system
