Yes tramadol is a narcotic in some states. I live in suffering Ohio and the DEA has made it into a narcotic around here.
Hi judybest
Tramadol is a centrally acting opioid analgesic, used in treating moderate to moderately severe pain.
Fully synthetic opioids: fentanyl, pethidine, methadone, tramadol and dextropropoxyphene.
It will remain in your system 2 to 3 days.
If you have a prescription from your Dr. please take it with you and let them know before they do the test.
Best of luck.

Tramadol is NOT an opiate. it is a synthetic opiate. Which is the reason it is not a controlled substance.
It IS an Opioid (synthetic) Analgesic, just as masso said. It also can cause feelings of euphoria, making it addictive. I've been a member of this site since '09 and have seen so many people that are addicted to Tramadol or Ultram and they go thru opiate withdrawal, just like ANY opiate withdrawal.
So, I respectfully disagree with you Boxermommy. I'm not trying to be rude nor start a fight, just adding my two cents in.
It also has a unique quality, it acts as an SNRI in the brain, making it even more addictive.

Excellent commet Mac, I definitely agree with you.

Thank you masso, you've seen how many people pleading for help, addicted to Tramadol, I'm sure, since we get so many of them!
I wasn't trying to be rude, I really do respect your comment Boxermommie and I do hope you stay on this site, don't let my comment discourage you.
You will have many people that agree with you wholeheartedly.

I was taking Tramadol with Vicodin for the past 20 years. The Tramadol counter acts the drowzzyness of the vicodin. Tramadol will give you energy, but it will also keep you awake if taken late in the afternoon. I gained so much wait from these that it was actually adding to the back pain. I finally sought the help of a Chiropractor and now (after 3 visits) I am off of everything! I can think straight and the wait is coming off. Good Luck!
Withdrawals from Ultram(tramadol) are significantly less severe than some of the more potents non-synthetics. Physical symptoms last about two days with lingering symptoms on the third. The second night you can usually get a few hours sleep. As for withdrawals from something like OxyContin, you are basically incapacitated for no less than a week. Tramadol is much easier to deal with physically and mentally but still those two days are still extremely painful and taxing. Avoid this at all costs.
I had a total knee replacement 7 weeks ago
Prior to this surgery I only knew i was allergic to vicadin and codeine
Orthopedic prescribed Percocet I had the majority if the side effects
Next came tramadol's generic ultram. I could not discern if i was feeling sick b/c I was recovering from a knee replacement or it was the drug
Went off tramadol and went through a horrific week of withdrawals ... hot. Cold. Nauseous extremely dizzy
Bed bound
My orthopedic said it's uncommon Beware if this drug .. I am now just taking ibuprofen .. Knee replacements are not for sissies !
No worries judybest ultram is non-narcotic hope this answered your question michelle.
after, being in a car accident. I was prescribed ultram. I thought it was a real pain pill. After lying down screaming in pain for 3 days with zero relief, I went to another, more well established dr. He told me ultram was a joke. It wasnt a narcotic,It was more like a psychiatric, fake opiate, that they give to drug addicts.. He then gave me hydrocone.. I cant imagine someone wanting ultram..It would be better to take a tylenol,a benadryl, and use a ice pack anyday..
I would have to agree to disagree. I have severe back pain and nervous system
