My doctor gave me Topamax for bipolar depression, but I have real bad anxiety already and I’m terrified to take meds cause of side effects. I’ve heard a lot of good things about these meds so I want to give it a try but I’m curious to know how long it take for them to work? Will I start to feel a difference within a few day or longer? I keep giving myself more anxiety everyday about starting them and I keep pushing it off. I haven’t been on meds in a year. Any information will help Thanks.

Topamax is a mood stabilizer. You have to get it up to certain blood level to see optimal results. It has to be gradually increased over time. I've taken it before and I felt it start relieving my anxiety and anger after a couple weeks. But it may take several weeks to get full benefit from it. I would give it a fair trial before you decide whether it's going to work for you.

MOST antidepressants take 6-8 weeks to be fully effective, but everyone is different. Some notice effects and feeling better within a week of taking them.
