Hi Maryannesteiner, I am surprised by the dosage of Hydroxyurea recommended. Be that as it may, has your hematocrit levels gone down after consuming hydroxyurea ?? Also why was thromboreductin prescribed for you ?? I am told that hydroxyurea reduces your hematocrit level (just like phlebotomy) so that the ailment does not progress into cancer or leukemia.
Nail discoloration and/or hair loss may be because of high dosage of hydroxyurea and/or simultaneous consumption of thromboreductin. Please double check with a hematologist.
@aramarao,
hi aramarao.i just had my usual friday check up and my labtest is quite okay yesterday my hematocrit is 0.42(0.37-0.47 for female) so its really normal, my hemoglobin is 134 before it was really 6 times higher... my only problem now is my platelet yesterday it was 880.0 it is double the normal rate,i dont take thromboreductin anymore i only took that when i was admitted for a week bcoz my platelet was way too high ... im taking my hydroxy 3x a day mwf and 2x a day tths... im having pains all over almost everyday and so weak to do things i easily get tired ,i do excercise too but sometimes it causes me having more pains on my bones and muscles... stiffneck and dizziness are also common to me ,its good to have joined here it gave me so many ideas about having this kind of disorder,it helps me a lot ...
I wish you all well with your journey with this disorder. Stay positive and enjoy every day as best you can.

Yes, in rats they can get cancer if given 3 times the human dose. It says they haven't done alot of studies in humans, but I'm sure it has happened in long term use and the reports are anecdotal. And yes, it can cause darkening of your nails and hair loss. Here's a web site about it.
