I am an 18, almost 19, year old female. I first got my period when I was 13 or 14 years old. Usually my period is relatively light and only lasts 3-4 days, never more than 6 at the very most and those extra days are usually just spotting.

I've never been "regular" and typically I'd get my period once every 3 months or so. I could never really tell when I was going to get my period until a day or two right before I got it.

Anyways, I haven't gotten my period in 4, going on 5 months. I've been getting period cramps a few times every month but haven't actually started.I feel like I've been bloating like you would if you were on your period, but I haven't gotten my period in so long.

I'm a virgin, I've never had any type of sex, never been even remotely close to doing anything with anybody else, so I know I can't be pregnant. But I do masturbate regularly. (By the way: Does that count as being sexually active?)

So, I've talked to my doctor before and she told me I should be fine as long as I was getting my period about 4 times a year. But since I've skipped so many months already, I'm worried that I won't be getting my period as often as she told me I should be. The only thing she told me I might worry about was that I might have a hard time getting pregnant whenever the time came.

I'm single, and not planning on having a baby anytime soon, but should I be worried for my health? Both my sisters and my mother have regular menstrual cycles, and, yeah, it's nice not to worry about bleeding every month, but I'm concerned. My doctor said she could put me on birth control but I don't really want to rely on a pill.

Is there a reason that I'm not on a regular cycle? Might it have something to do with masturbating? Should I be as concerned as I am? Is there anything I can do to get my body to start my period or should I just wait it out?
