The instructions on my bottle says take one a day but I have always heard you only need to take it on days that you need/want the effect.

You are correct, only take it as needed. Specifically 1-4 hours before having sex, and it seems to work a lot better when taken on an empty stomach. Cialis is the medication that is taken daily for erectile disfunction. Viagra/Sildenafil is only taken as needed, and never more than one time in a 24 hour period.

Viagra is usually taken only when needed, 30 minutes to 1 hour before sexual activity. You may take it up to 4 hours before sexual activity. Do not take Viagra more than once per day.
