Just a quick question, I was wondering if anyone has ever noticed any discomfort/drowsiness/headache from changing the time of day when you take Effexor? I've been taking Effexor for two months and began taking it at noon (because it said to take it with a meal and I had severe acid reflux in the mornings, so my first meal was lunch).. however now I am back to eating breakfast and I started taking it with my other daily vitamins at 9am, for the last three days... now today I am noticing a headache and discomfort similar to when I first began taking the Effexor two months ago..
I was just wondering if anyone else has had side effects when changing the time of day when the medication is taken.
I don't think it will make a difference between taking it at noon or at 9 in the morning. Maybe you are having symptoms for another reason like maybe that time of the month (hope you are a girl or I just really embarrassed myself) or are getting a bug of some kind.
I checked and there shouldn't be any problem with taking the Effexor with your vitamins. Do you take anything else?
You got me stumped,
Laurie

I feel a little better today.. but I also take Protonix in the morning and B/C Sprintec.. and at night I take clonozepam, very small dose, I think it's .5 mg pill but I cut it into 6 pieces... so it's really minimal.
Also I woke up yesterday with a sore throat so I took 1/2 an Aleve Cold and Sinus - which may have interacted?
Started to feel a bit better around 8pm last night, but the whole day I was agitated with a short fuse, I had a racing heart, and my head was just killing me.. but of course I didn't want to take MORE medicine, for fear it might get worse..
Hopefully today is more normal.

Hey Lielanie,
Yep, there is an interaction between the Aleve cold and sinus and the Effexor that can cause the symptoms you decribe. What I read is as follows:
MONITOR: Additive or synergistic effects on blood pressure and heart rate may occur when serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) are combined with sympathomimetic agents such as nasal decongestants, adrenergic bronchodilators, ophthalmic vasoconstrictors, and systemic vasopressors. The use of SNRIs alone has been associated with sustained increases in blood pressure and heart rate, and cases of elevated blood pressure requiring immediate treatment have been reported in postmarketing experience.
MANAGEMENT: Caution is advised if SNRIs are used with other drugs that can increase blood pressure and/or heart rate. Blood pressure and pulse should be measured prior to initiating SNRI therapy and monitored at regular intervals thereafter. Dose reduction or discontinuation of the SNRI should be considered in patients who experience a sustained increase in blood pressure or pulse rate.
So I recommend you don't do that again. I hope you are feeling better now and aren't getting sick with a cold. Do take care of yourself and keep us posted.
