I was on Zoloft (25-50mg) for about 3 years then year two I added Wellbutrin (150mg). worked well for me but decided this past summer to stop to see how I would manage and I was fine. went through some struggles in school (nothing major just some lack of motivation) and decided to get back on Wellbutrin and Zoloft together about a month ago. I took the medications for 2 days and it caused horrible thoughts, panic from when I wake up to when I go to bed. I stopped the medication and it’s been a month and the panic has not subsided. I had general anxiety before but now i’m in a panic 24/7, I can’t eat and can’t sleep and stopped school which I love school so idk what happened there. I am not doing well. I don’t know why the medication caused this and why it didn’t stop when I stopped taking it? What happened? will I ever get myself back from a month ago?
Sertraline - Does the anxiety and panic ever go away after stopping Zoloft?

Hi, Addie!
Did you only take the current meds for two days? They can cause increased anxiety initially but after a month there shouldn't be any lasting side effects because you didn't take it long enough to have discontinuation syndrome.
Were you being treated for anxiety originally? Could this be a rebound of your symptoms? Anxiety can be a chronic disorder that's not necessarily triggered by events in your life.
If you're having anxiety/panic attacks you need to consult with your doctor for professional advice about treatment.
Best regards and I hope you're better quickly.
Thank you for the response- I initially started with zoloft 3 years ago then added the wellbutrin. this time I started both at the same time for two days then discontinued then the symptoms never went away. could it be serotonin syndrome? could it have just shocked my body and still not reset? I had very little anxiety prior but not I can’t even function and it’s tough not knowing what happened. i’ve talked to my doctors and they aren’t sure either and haven’t heard of this.
It's true that Serotonin Syndrome can cause some anxiety but it's rare. With SS you'd probably be experiencing other symptoms like agitation, muscle spasms, sweating, diarrhea, and so on.
It's rare affecting only about 8 thousand people out of the tens of thousands of users of antidepressants and it's very treatable in the early stages.
What did these doctors suggest?
the doctor suggested we try the zoloft again. I just am constantly in a scared state and don’t know what caused it. nothing really feels real which is so odd. doctor also recommended intense therapy which I will be looking into.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can be very, very effective for many people. I do it with medications and it really has helped me examine my anxieties, emotions, and negative thinking. It helps you learn better ways of coping.
