I was in the hospital for 4 days, once released I have not had a bowel movement. I think I may be constipated from the antibiotics. Trying to drink more water but not working. I need to know what stool softener is best during this time.
Is it safe to use Exlax while having Diverticulitis?

Try mineral oil.
I would be wary of using Exlax. Did your doctor say anything about taking Metamucil ? If you are battling bouts of Diverticulitis, you really don't want to be constipated. I had to have a partial colectomy on the left and right side of my colon 20 months ago... no fun. I hope your doctor has helped you out by now and explained the "Evils" of Diverticulitis. Change in diet, lots of fiber and exercise will help as well.
I don't think I'd try anything stronger then colace or its generic with diverticulitis. If you need something stronger I'd check with my doc about what to take.
