I have been using Darvocet for 20 years without any side effects. Over the years I have tried everything the doctors came up with for my nerve damage and fibromyalgia in my back. Now since Darvocet is no longer available I am starting over looking for something to take the edge off my everyday pain.
Replacement for Darvocet?

My doctor is trying tylenol-3 on me right now. This med makes me feel like I am in a fog. It seems to work nothing like the darvocet. My doctor never mentioned what withdrawls I would have coming off darvocet. I am wondering if my headache, irritabillity, upset stomach, vision not right, and restless sleep are from withdrawl or the codeine. It has been 5 days since stopping darvocet. I was taking 4 a day. Now doing tylenol-3 4 times a day and the relief from it only last 2-3 hours.

my meds have now changed since i have had 3 back surgeries in under a month.i'm still on ultrams and soma's but now i am on 75mg fentanyl patch and 15mg of oxy's every 6 hours the patch is changed evey 72hours ! this is wonderful for me i don't hurt as much!!! was given fentanyl in a pill but couldn't afford it as it was 1,700 for 60 pills .doc says it would help the unbearable pain in 5 minutes !but who could afford 1,700 even if insurance covered 70 percent !
Brenda and all others this may apply t I suggest you look up the sight for fentanyl patches and get a number to call or email most cmpanies want to help people get the meds they need so they will help with the copays your insurance won't pay even some medications they will forfiet the copay for you there is no harm in checking into it I hope they assist you good luck I wish you good health and better days litlmomma-
Propoxyphene to me has always been a joke of a pain reliever. It just never worked at all for me. Tramadol is similar, but acts much more like a true narcotic in the brain. As well as the fact that tramadol also has anti depressant properties. It will be tricky to find something to replace darvocet/darvon if those actually worked for you. I was very happy to see this withdrawal happen, though, as I knew in my heart something about propoxyphene wasn't right.
I also found darvocet and darvon worked for me without side effects and the only two drugs I kno of that act just like darvocet is ultram 100 and norco I find vicodin too strong a drug and even though norco is supposedly the same it isnt it is just like taking a darvon
I have fibromyalgia as well. I take Lyrica (when it doesn't give me hives) and it has helped pain a bit. You might want to ask your doc about Vicodin, yet it is an opiate and quite addictive.
Hope you find relief soon,

Hi tone4u2 & sweetlemon; for what it's worth:: I take generic vicodin for severe Arthritis pain. It has less acetaminephen = 10/325 , it's cheap , it's not quite as strong as name brand Vic's and it's not as addictive. Normally I take one tab. /6 hrs.=(4per day) If pain gets real bad I go one Gen. Vic. with 3 Enteric coated 325mg. asprins. I've been on them almost a year and no addictive problems yet ! Sacosam
Tone4u2; You're either lucky or blessed. The F.D.A.'s been trying to get Darvon / Darvocet & the like off the shelf for near 30 yrs. It's killed a lot of people ! Sacosam
You might try Tramadol (Ultram).
I have a friend that has fibromyalgia and she has tried many meds that did not work, but the doctor put her on lyrica and she is really feeling alot better. Good luck and I hope you find something that will help you in place of darvocet.
Good luck and take care
Sincerely, Terri:)
Whoops! didn't mean to get involved - but I know what you mean about Darvocet - I would just take it when things were intense - but it did the trick. Dr gave me Tramadol - No, No, No - I was so anxious. Now he prescribed Vicodin, only 10. I am scared of them coz it seems a lot of people get in over their head with it.
Eat right for your Blood type has a book on what foods help decrease fibromyalagia pain it addresses fibromyalgia dirrectly. Also Connective tissue therapy also known as Endermologie and lipomassage can be very helpful. Avoiding opiates is hard when on pain but the side effects are NOT worth it. Also b6 and b12 shots can really help with Fibromyalgia. Neurontin is also an amazing medicine that has helped me with chronic pain and extreme nerve damage. I am not a nurse or a doctor but i have lived with chronic pain for years and have clients that suffer from fibromyalgia. Also Far infarred sauna's can be extremely beneficial. Get clearance from your doctor before you try either the sauna or the endermologie but they can be extremely helpful if you want to avoid opiates and narcotics.
tone4u n sweet, i was on darvocet for many years. tried vicodin. not as good. just got a perscrip for gabapentin 300 mg.. works great for lower back pain as well as fibromyalgia in my leg. tried lyrica but that didnt cut it either. been sleepin better too.
Hi wil sir,

I'm so glad someone else understands and misses the Darvocets like I do.
They were my best friend for nearly 15 years. I have headaches. Okay really bad ones!! This sounds crazy I know, but I have had a headache from the time I go to bed until I wake for nearly 17 years now. Noone can really figure out what is wrong with me. They diagnosed me with Degenerative DD. I have tried many many pills and am so sick of them. I had no relief until finally getting a combination that worked. Tramadol-Darvocet-Flexeril.
That was my magic potion. Now it is gone and I haven't been the same since. :( Any advice or suggestions appreciated. I am now prescribed Percocet-Tramadol-Ativan and the relief is just not there. I feel like I'm hopped up but really really depressed.
I told this to my doctor. Letting him know I'm really anxious and sad. I don't want to do anything and its not like me at all. At one time in my life, I was energetic and happy. No longer that person now. :(
I try to keep a smile on or appear chipper for my family who needs me dearly, but my smile has faded and I can't seem to pull myself out of it.
This doctor dropped me a few days ago and now I'm a mess.
I believe his license came from a Cracker Jack box.
My pain management doctor dropped me reason being- I am a hyphochondriac. Oh my gosh! No I'm not!
I can't stop crying and things really stink right now. The more I cry the more my head pounds. I've been taking everything in the medicine cabinet from Tylenols to Benadryls and the entire collection of pills I've aquired over the years. I'm afraid doing this and feel angry at myself and the doctor.
HELP!

Litlmommag-
try the Vicodin.Take 1 whole, later 1/2 then later 1/2 if needed then at bedtime take 1 whole. This works for me now.Don't take more than you need!
I also have fibromyalgia and suffered wide spread pain for 28 years. I took Darvocet N 100 for 26 years. Now I take norco and I am sleepy and tired all day long I didn't have that problem with Darvocet. Why do we have to suffer this way it should be up to us. There side effects to every medication it should be up to us to take it or not.
