My wife had surgery recently and was given a generic brand of Darvocet. Not know the generic brand or it's side effects, she wanted to take some Darvocet N-100 that we had in the medicine cabinet that was filled in Jan. 09. The question is, how long is the shelf life of this drug and what will it do over time? Will it weaken or what?

Oh my gosh I would have killed for those 12 pills!!! :(
I have an old prescription sitting in front of me for Darvocet N - 100. It was prescribed on 06/04/09. It says it expires 02/28/10. That's almost 9 months. I suspect that the actual shelf life is longer than that though. A way for the drug companies to line their pockets. While some people will dispose of "old" drugs and seek new prescriptions, others will keep taking a drug after it's expiration date. In fact, I believe I have. I think they still worked, but my memory is a little too fuzzy (too much darvocet you say?) The remaining 12 pills on this RX are going in the toilet tonight!
I have always taken old prescriptions and I have yet to get any side affects. I think they may loose there potency. I have done research on expired good vitamins and they just loose there potency. I only take the best Shaklee. I would not rust the ones out os the store to begin to mold or harden so they would not dissolve.
