Ejaculatory disorder (primarily ejaculatory delay) (6%) and impotence (3%) are known side effects of citalopram. Unfortunately it won't go away while you are taking citalopram. If it is really bothersome please see your doctor.
Hello I am not a male, but am responding to this question due to the fact that I am on this same drug and have been for about a year now... It has a high success rate and by far has worked for me personally for almost a year now... You may want to speak to your doctor about prescribing klonopin .05 mg's maybe 1/2 of that but probably the whole tablet... I am on it as well and it does help with increasing sex drive... It seems to help in this area... Being a male I can only imagine how frustrating, disturbing, tense not to mention painful as it must be... I also am 23 years your senior with 6 children, 3 step and 3 biological... I have been on medications since a young age... I can relate in a different sort of way, being female that is... It will take at least 3 months for this to get into your system really in the blood stream, but the klonopin will assist in reversing some of the bothersome side effects, it will relax you more...
now that you know in your mind how it is effecting you it is making it worse because you are probably pushing yourself too much... will get back with you, ... Blaze22
sorry about the double post, my computer said original comment didn't post... oops... computer/laptop running slow... sorry... for taking up the space and repeat... blaze22
Well I am not a male so this information given is for the purpose of enlightening you to the medication Celexa/citalopram, and the fact that I am on the same drug. You may want to speak to your doctor about klonopin and maybe starting off with just 1/2 of that at .05mg's along with the celexa... Klonopin has played an important role with the lessening of side effects of the celexa and has been known to increase sex drive... It does seem to help in this area, but again I am a female, much older than yourself, by 23 years but have been married for 16. I have 6 children 3 step and 3 biological, and yes being on these types of medications can put a damper on things however it takes time... you will have to be patient... If your girlfriend loves you, really cares about you she should be patient as well. But again being a male it I am sure is even more bothersome, and probably painful, and extremely frustrating... as if you are not depressed enough...
It is going to take at least 3 months for this to be in your system really in your bloodstream before you start seeing a difference, and able to function but I have to say it does have a high success rate and it is the only one that has worked for me for almost a year, aside from zoloft... will check back with you... blaze22 p.s. also maybe you are pushing yourself too much in this specific area because now you know how bad it is and to let your body move into it as naturally and as free spirited as possible, the minute you start putting a time clock to your lovemaking it will just get worse...
