Is there a problem cutting this pill in half even if it isn't scored. I know I was taught if it wasn't scored you aren't suppose to cut it in half. The VA orders medications like this and this is why I need clarification for a client in our Residential Drug program.
Was prescribed Lisinopril 40 mg 1/2 tab QD. This pill is not scored can it be cut in half ?

I have cut 40mg's in half over 2 years and had no problem at all. The oval ones don't shatter, cut easily, the round ones though will shatter so I used a pill cutter. The oval ones I could break with my fingers perfectly...
That's not the problem. The problem is pills that aren't supposed to be cut absorb wrong if you cut them.
For pete's sake, they can be a problem can't they. When its dispensed any pill ordered half of they should cut it. If you have a pill splitter you can try. I'd feel better if you called a pharmacist and asked if it can be done. I know I tried to cut an amlodipine and it just shattered, no way could I come up with half of a pill. You can call any pharmacist and ask that, if you'd rather not call the va pharmacy
Thank you I appreciate your response
