I take it up to 2 a day. Works great for my ulcer, I had acid in my throat and that has stopped I can also skip or forget and take it later and be just fine. Worked WAY better than the others I tried.
It does help heal and repair damage and my symptoms are 1000x better today than 2 years ago. I highly recommend it, even for nervous stomach.
Hi Patiently Waiting,
The omeprazole is a wonder drug but the side effects are very very serious for me. I can barely walk from shortness of breath, I have pains in my joints, get urinary tract infections, slows down my urinating, anemia, low on vitamin D due to interference... it is scary for me but then I am so sensitive to drugs. I must agree though it sure helps the acid reflux, hiatel hernia, etc. I am now taking it every other day but wish I could take it every day since the acid reflux is evident before the end of the time it has worn off.
Thanks for your input!
Anne
I wonder if they have it in like a very low dose or special way to take it? You might could separate it from all meds and take at bedtime? I do every night. Crazy side effects! Never had any of those with it. I would for sure talk to the pharmacist to see any way if there is to help minimize these effects. I'd be careful if that is what's happening :(
Awesome all I have recieved so far as far as answers to my question is great meds but side effects can be bad if you get any of them, so I hope for the best and thx for taking time to answer my question. I feel alot better about taking it now, I was a die hard nexium user, lets pray for no bad side effects, thx again and good luck!
Thx fro the feedback, I do feel so much better about the switch from Nexium, I hope I dont get the bad side effects, but if so its only going to be for a short period of time until the doctor and insurance decide my date for my procedure. Thx again!!
Hi Patiently Waiting... please do not forget to let me know how ther surgery is... by the way, what is the name of your surgery? We only have one surgeon here in town that does ours. I live in a small city in California.
Will let you know the name of the surgery done here when I find out.
I wish you the best of luck!
Anne
Hi what dose did you take when yours first started as 20 mg 2 times a day wasn’t enough for me upped it to 80 mg a day for last 2 weeks hoping will settle
Omeprazole would help by decreasing acid production in the stomach and causing reflux.
Omeprazole belongs to a group of drugs called proton pump inhibitors. Omeprazole decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
Omeprazole is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions caused by excess stomach acid. It is also used to promote healing of erosive esophagitis (damage to your esophagus caused by stomach acid).
Awesome„ thats great to hear until I have my surgery to patch up my hernia„ I really need something that works. I was taking Nexium„ it worked well for a long while but now its just not helping so my doctor prescribed this for a change. Think you for the imput. I appreciate it now I think its time to take my medicine.
Please let us know how this surgery works out for you, Tinko as my doctor is suggesting surgery also. I, too took medication for 10 years but mine was the Omeprazole and then I started with so many side effects that the doctor felt the surgery would be best... I am uncertain about the surgery so your input would be very important to me. What is the name of your surgery?
Thank you,
Anne
You know that I'm not even sure what its called but I do know that it is outpatient, and they put a mesh patch over the hole thats in the lining of the stomach. I have to have it done because a few months ago I had and infection and because of the hernia, there was no lining to protect the part of my stomach where the whople is, mine it very large, anyhow the infection attacked the exposed area and it was aweful. the medication they had to give me for the infection was the most horrible, degrading and humiliating side effects that you could ever imagine. The meds made me have no control WHATSOEVER of my bowel and constant diarrhea, no matter where I was at.
I had so many bad accidents because the meds just totally flushed out the infection, through my bowels, I never ever ever want to experience the humilliation I had to basically wear a diaper and OMG!!! That wasnt even good enough to hol;d what came out of me whenever and where ever I was, thank God for the surgery and I will keep you posted as far as the procedure I am so looking forward to it,anything ha sto be better then this. Go ahead and remind me every now and then so I wont forget I am a student with a heavy work load so I/m busy all the time ok, thx for the feedback!! Good luck!!!
Oh TinkO, I am so sorry you have had to go through all the humiliation and you are so so young!!! just a student and having these problems... again I am so sorry.
Wishing you extra good luck and do not be concerned about answering this as I do understand the workload you have.
