I got the Nexplanon inserted of July 13th, 2013 and about 3.5 weeks later I started my period, which was when it was supposed to on a normal cycle. But my period had now lasted six weeks and I'm wondering if its worth the wait to see if it'll stop, or if I should try a different birth control. This period is extremely light, it's like it's not even there, but it gets old after a while.
Nexplanon - I've been on my period for six weeks, what are my chances of it stopping anytime soon?

In October 2020, I will have been on Nexplanon for a year now. I experienced bleeding for several weeks at a time throughout this year but because my cramps are almost nonexistent and my bleeding is significantly lighter, I decided the pros were worth the cons. However, after being blood free for a while, my period came back in June. This period lasted for more than three months. The first two months or so were fine, I just wanted it to end. But after several irritations (due to constant friction from my pads) and a wasted summer of no swimming, I decided I really needed to find a way to stop the bleeding. Due to several reasons, I was not able to see my doctor. After reading nearly a million articles, I realized (assumed) the bleeding was due to my lack of estrogen (Nexplanon is progesterone only). I started mixing a total of 1 tbs of grounded flaxseeds in with my breakfast. Sometimes I would just mix it in with warm water and drink it. After 3 days, my bleeding had stopped.
I continued taking flaxseeds daily for a while after that but now I take them occasionally. I am NOT a doctor. I just came across this page when doing my research and it put me at ease to know I was not the only one experiencing the imperfect side of birth control. Now, I am back to offer what helped me. This may not work for everyone and there is no real proof that the flaxseeds actually stopped my period. But, since there are many pros and very little (if any) cons to adding flaxseeds to your diet, I feel my situation is a safe one to share.
I had my Nexplanon put in July 27 2017 and removed June 12 2020 & I bled at least 85% of the time I had it inserted. Weeks at a time, I would go maybe a week or two in between bleeding MAX. I even started bleeding the day after having it removed and haven’t stopped yet. Which is only 5 days but, considering the last three years it feels like a lifetime. My bleeding during Nexplanon was heavy though.
I started the Nexplanon January 13th 2020. I was on the pill but I wasn’t taking the pill like I was supposed to so I was spotting so bad. Then when I got the Nexplanon I stopped. Maybe about 2 to 3 weeks later I started having the brown discharge I asked my doctor she said it can last up to 6 months. Then on February 13th i gotten my period and it’s been about a week I’m still on. I have blood clots during my period. I had some cramps and I been taking pain relief they don’t work. Then the other day I had this very bad cramp where I started breaking out into a sweat and almost vomit. I had to take 2,000mg just to calm the cramps down. I really don’t know what to do. I don’t know if I should hang in there to see if I’ll stop bleeding or just get it talking out and just go back to the pills
I have had the nexplanon since 12/24/18 and I have gone maybe 2 total months without bleeding. And now my bleeding is so heavy I’m throwing bigger clots then I normally would on my period and sometimes I cramp so bad that I don’t want to move. My doctor tried the pill to stabilize the lining of the uterus but guess what I’M STILL BLEEDING LIKE A STUCK PIG!!! No normal human being should bleed like this and live. My doctor can’t remove mine for a 6 weeks cause she’s that busy...
I got my nexplanon beginning of February, and my bleeding started February 25th. It’s been over 4 months. I’ve read al the other reply’s and I’ve seen most people say at 6 months everything got better. But this is very stressful. My boyfriend won’t have sex with my because he finds the brown stuff and fleshy type stuff gross. I find the nexplanon annoying. I was told by people I know 3 months and everything should stop. The doctor told me that too. But it’s now been over 4 months and I can feel something has happened to my uterus or ovaries. It terrifies me to think that something has happened. But finding this page helps me feel a little better. That means I’m not the only one
Sex will help your periods go away but if you stop for a few weeks or a month might go back to the long spotting
Yes it can last longer & be heavier for some. I tolerated it a year before I gave up with it, but it's normal to take months to settle down.
I had the same problem. A birth control implant was placed in my arm and my bleeding kept going for an entire year without stopping except for an occasional day or two. It was scary so i had it removed and was put on the pill. My periods are regular now and i am much more calm, i recommend you have the implant removed and consider a different birth control method.
The first time I put in my next plant I had no period until the end u have heavy bleeding I had to go to A&E . When the time was up I’ve took it out and put back in a new one . That was since July now is September and am still bleeding I hate it’s umcomtable . Stressful and tired of charging and checking wondering when will it end . I’ve made an appointment to see my doctor. I need this sorted before I run out of blood .
I gave birth to my son on July 3 I had the nexplanon inserted on the 5th and have been bleeding ever since it will Get light then back heavy again not to heavy but heavy my doctor told me that a high intake of ibprophen should help stop the bleeding so I’m going to take 1200mg 3 times a day. For 4 days and See if anything changes
I got the implant may 8th on my birthday .. here it is August and I’ve been bleeding on and off .. my period would go away for 3 days then it comes back .. I have bad cramps .. mood swings . It’s so annoying . So ready to take it out . I tried eating nuts and all that good stuff that another person suggested and it actually worked . It stopped for a week and it came right back
Has anyone else had very heavy bleeding? It's comforting and also disheartening that everyone is having constant periods like me, though most are having them pretty light. I started on Nexplanon 2 years ago in May and had only very light periods once every 2-3 months. Jan 2018, I suddenly had an extremely heavy period, it freaked me and my bf out since they say miscarriages/ectopic pregnancy is a side effect. Nothing was wrong with me that they could see, the bleeding stopped after a couple of hours, but it was was beyond any period. I had heavy periods before using Nexplanon so I know what that looks like, this was 3x that. Since then, I keep having 2-3 week long periods or multiple week-long periods in a month. At my last check-up in May, they said I had iron-deficiancy anemia.
Iron saturation was at 9%, it should be 25-50% for a healthy woman my age!! Been constantly watching my iron intake since then, per doctor's orders, but it's getting tiresome and causing me some anxiety. A couple of weeks ago, I had another heavy bleeding incident. Thank fully I was wearing a meunstral cup at the time, or it would have gotten all over the bed. Lost so much blood all at once I was shivering uncontrollably for an hour. Considering having it removed at this point...
I got the implant April 18th. I started spotting on May 11th and it’s been 7 weeks and I’m STILL SPOTTING. Did it ever stop for you?! I’m not sure how much longer I can keep this thing in it’s just terrible to constantly bleed. And more than half the time it’s this gross brownish black old blood looking spotting. I don’t understand it
Im 27 and I've had the implanon for 3 years. Im getting to remove it next week and I wish I would have removed it sooner. It is very affective in that I havent gotten pregnant. Huge cons for this BC is the heavy periods. I only have them every 4-5 months but when I do it'll be a whole month that I am bleeding, and bleeding heavily. I have gained over 60 pounds in these passed 3 years and nothing has changed drastically as far as eating so i know that can't be it.
I've had lots more headaches on this BC and fatigue and I feel nausea a lot of times.
But it has done the job of not letting me get pregnant sop thats 1 pro.
will update after a month I get it off.
I just got my Nexplanon inserted 2 weeks ago, I am a healthy 29 year old who workouts and eats mostly vegetables, I have a clean diet, I got my period the next day after insertion, it's been non-stop, going on 2 weeks now, reading all the reviews and it sounds like everyone has the same problem. I hope this ends soon, this is getting old. You call your doctor and they just tell you give it time, it's like no one knows what to do besides remove it, I've checked Nexplanons website, they don't have an email or contact number, no support from them... Hope this ends soon or ill have to remove and never use their products again...
I got the Nexplanon at the end of January, it was awesome for two weeks, and then that's when the bleeding started. I have been light bleeding for 14 days and i am beyond upset. My boyfriend is all freaked out and wont touch me, and its been causing relationship issues. The bleeding is light, but annoying. I have had it. I cant live this way and im getting it taken out ASAP. I will literally do any other form of birth control at this point. DO NOT GET NEXPLANON!!!
