I got my implant February 12th. I was on day 4 of my period. I went on to have my period for an additional 2 days like usual. No bleeding until March 6th. I bled my 6 days. When my period was over, I started experiencing brown discharge or maybe blood... Not much, but enough to need to wear a thin pad. On the 19th of March, I started another period. Ended 5 days later. That being said, from March 24-current (April 14th) I've been non stop experiencing more brown "blood." Sometimes it lightens up and I think it's going to stop, then it gets dark again.
If my boyfriend and I have sex, I start bleeding actual blood for 30minutes- an hour, then experience brown blood again. I don't know if I have a problem, or if it's normal. I haven't seen anything about bleeding brown blood for a month or even longer really at a time. Only for a couple of days then it stops. Should I be concerned? Also, is brown blood or discharge considered "spotting?" Or is spotting just mainly a little bit of pink/red blood?
Nexplanon - Is non stop brown blood or discharge normal?

I am having this same problem!! I dont remember exact dates like you have here. But, I got mine put in like 5 days after my period had ended.. didn't have another period until about a month after it was put in.. then it seems like I have this non stop blood that doesn't flow out like normal period does, but is there when I wipe.. seems to be very dark, and then will sometimes get brighter. Seems like it will go away, then if we have sex I bleed again. It is super frustrating and makes me feel nasty. Has a bad odor to it also.
I have the same, first 2 periods normal, then 6 weeks break, the period with dark blood that lasted 2 weeks, one week break and now again since 21.01 I have non stop dark blood. When is it going to finish! Going mad. Is it normal?
I’m 22 and I’ve had the implant for exactly a year today. I only ever got my period maybe 3 times? It could’ve been 4 times but it wasn’t too bad. I’d have it for 5-6 days and I’d be ok after. The last time I got my period was 3 weeks ago and ended after 5 days. The only problem I’m having now is that for the past 2 weeks I’ve been having brown discharge non-stop. It’s gotten a bit lighter... but it’s still there and it’s starting to freak me out. I don’t even feel like having sex because it grosses me out. I was thinking maybe I have a yeast infection and old blood is mixed in with it but I’ve never had a yeast infection either so I’m stuck not knowing. I’ll be waiting another week to go to the doctor to see if maybe MAYBE it stops. But reading everyone comments just worries me even more.
I'm 20 and have had nexplanon for over a year maybe almost 2 years. The first 6 months I had spotting every day but they were manageable with a liner and this was better than the heavy period I used to have. After 6 months the period completely stopped and I really liked the implant. However, I hit a year and the spotting had come back. Now it is sometimes pink, sometimes brown, but mostly brown. At one point, it felt like my period symptoms had all come back and I was having periods again. I was experiencing a lot of the side effects at random times. I am really considering removing the implant because of all the minor everyday inconveniences but I realllyy hate my regular period.
Hey guys, so I have had nexplanon for about 3/4 months now. At first it was great and it's still not awful. Iv had a little spotting but no period so that's great. So it's all good except for when I want to have sex. Iv only had sex maybe 3 times on it and every time I do it's painful at first. And the first time I had a huge blood clot afterwards and bleed for a week straight. And the other two have been smaller blood clots but it makes me spot. I just want to know if I'm going to be able to have regular sex with out having to deal with the clots and the stuff. Helllp
Please get that removed, I’ve had the implanon 3yrs and I can’t remember being so depressed, angry and aggravated. I’ve had this nexplanon for 3 yrs and I’ve been miserable the entire time with irregular periods to the point where sex is almost non existent. I’ll be getting this removed in a few weeks because it’s time and I won’t be getting anything else in my body for birth control, it’s just not worth it anymore. I may get my tubes tied but that’s the only other option for me. I’m reading all these comments and it’s good to know I’m not alone.
Hiya, I found this while googling the same situation. I'd love to know how you got on as I havnt had any luck finding out if this is normal or not. I got the implant in October and these simptims started Mid-november.
It is Good to know others are experiencing the same as me! I had nexplanon inserted in June and since then I was bleeding for 2 weeks then my periods stopped completely and now I get a period about every 2 months with this brown discharge blood coming just after my period has stopped.
I've had my implant in for 8 months now and I'm always getting mad at my boyfriend for the littlest things, I have mood swings,I feel depressed sometimes, and I'm always bleeding!! That's the thing that bothers me the most honestly... every time I have sex my blood gets messy and sometimes it's a gross brown color... I just hope this bleeding stops soon cuz I've heard it takes atleast the first year or 2 for u to stop bleeding on nexplanon.
see I haven’t actually bleed unless it’s after sex and it’s like I have a full period. I hope it stops
Hello Girls,
I've had the implant since I was 20 so 9 years and I went onto my 4th implant just gone April. When I was on the implanon for 6 years it was great just a light period every month. Then they changed it to the Nexplanon for the last 3 years and I had a full, heavy painful period every month. I changed to my latest one 4 months ago, and it's been awful. I haven't stopped bleeding. I went to the doctors, all my tests came back normal - it really is just the implant - so I'm gutted after all these years of it being 'perfect' for me. I've had the brown 'bleed' now constantly, bleeding after sex, being faint and dizzy all the time. I have just been prescribed 2 months of cerasette to be taken continuously, to help with the bleeding. It's just sooooo frustrating pumping myself full of more hormones.
Hi, I had the same problem - I bled for over a month after getting my Nexplanon inserted, and it was terrible - but I managed to stop it myself by eating foods with high estrogen content, like soy, flax seeds, sesame seeds, beans, walnuts, olive oil, tempeh, bran, hummus, and dried fruit. If you think about it, this makes sense: Nexplanon is a progesterone-only method of birth control. It lacks the estrogen hormone that the Pill has, which regulates your periods. My period stopped within 3 days of eating these types of foods at every meal.
I also had a Planned Parenthood physician tell me you can stop it by taking ibuprofen in very high doses - three 200mg capsules three times a day for 6-7 days. I opted not to try this because I was worried about of the risk of heart-attack linked to ibuprofen, but it's an option.
*disclaimer, I'm not a medical professional, I'm just sharing what worked for me*
I read this a few months ago and started eating some of the suggested foods, and I think it worked. This time around it isn't working so much, but I would like to continue trying, since I hate having my period like this for weeks at a time. I'm just curious though, did a doctor tell you about this, did you research it? Or, did you come up with it on your own? I'm definitely interested in hearing from you, since there are not many "natural" options like this shared.
im not sure if its normal but when I say i am experiencing the EXACT SAME thing right now! I thought something was wrong with me.. I wish it would stop!
I got the implant in November 25
When I got my period it lasted for a week and a few days and was very light. At times I didn't get my period but on other days it would be light and last for a couple of days... it's now May and my period lasted for 2 weeks and I later was having a brown waterly discharge... I went to see a doctor and was given some clotting medicine. The doctor advised me that if it went on for more than 3 days after taking the medication I should get it removed . After taking the medicine the brown discharge only became thicker but never stopped, now I'm getting it removed. I'll try an alternate method.
I've had the implant for about a year now. The first few months I was bloated and I bled brown, but after that it was pretty smooth. Until now. I am bleeding brown again, but I do think it is normal. Nexplanon works differently for each woman, but it feels incredibly gross. It doesn't hurt like a period, but I always thought it was like built up pressure from not having a regular cycle. If I am wrong, it would be nice to know though.
Ok this post is old but I'm hoping I'll get a response lol I had my nexplanon put in back in November so it's been 6 ish months. No side effects. I bled for a couple of weeks then my period was normal but less painful woo. But a couple weeks ago I started lightly bleeding. More like heavy spotting? Not everyday but almost everyday and not all day either... should I be concerned about pregnancy?? I've been crampy on and off too! :( no other symptoms though. I don't feel pregnant (I have a toddler). Ugh help.
I have had this nexplanon implant for just over a year now, and I have also had 10 months of daily thick brown discharge some days seem more than others, but no break from it. Still brown stain with sex (not such a nice situation). I had the older version before the Implannon and that was fine no sign of blood or any period. This newer Implant is rubbish I'm itchy all the time low libido and tired a lot. I think were all in the same boat. Obviously discharge is normal with this!! Dont think can stand it much longer if I'm honest x
