What does anyone reccomend for muscle pains in my legs, back, pretty much all over the body. Muscle spasms are the best I can to describe the problem. Nerve damage is causing the muscles to cramp. Besides muscle therapy I need something else to decrease my pain. I've got heated padding, vibrating mats to sit on or lay on. Anyone have a secret or 3 to share?

I have a lot of problems with cramping in my legs, feet and toes especially during the night. These are extremely painful but have found something called Leg Cramps (Brand - Hyland's), over the counter pills. You can get it at Walmart for $3.97, usually in the vitamin area. Usually have to take 4 or so all at once but they do help. (Have also found it at other stores). It is great in that it does usually relieve the cramping within 5 minutes. Have no idea what causes the cramping/spasms but they are horrible!! They seem to come in cycles in that they are not present constantly and I can go months without them but once they start back up again they can go on for days and/or weeks. Have a lot of nerve damage in my back.
Hi Imab - I am researching this product now on the hyland website. I was surprised to find that the active ingredient is "quinine" or the same stuff that is in tonic water but at a much higher dose in the tonic water. So just food for thought for you... if you ever run out and can't get anything quick... it looks like you can have maybe a 1/4 cup of tonic water and that should also give quick relief. I didn't realize that it comes in so many different modes of application or ingestion. So there is an ointment, a caplet plus a sublingual tablet in both a 50 & 100 count supply.
I think this is worth mentioning as well. I have copied a portion regarding the warnings directly from the manufacturer's website:
"Uses and Warnings:
Uses: Temporarily relieves the symptoms of cramps and pains in lower back and legs.
Warnings: Ask Ask a doctor before use if you are pregnant, nursing, sensitive to "quinine" or administering to someone under 12 years of age.
Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children. Do not use if imprinted tamper band is broken or missing. In case of accidental overdose, contact a poison control center immediately.
In case of emergency, the manufacturer may be contacted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 800-624-9659."
I thought that was worth saying... I appreciate your input and the research on this product is very interesting!!!
Thanks, Mary
Hi... was wondering if you was still taking these pills for the spasams? I suffer from nerve damage as well as well as my spine deteriorating on left side.
Hello mizzu... Your question is more likely to get answered if you post a new question. This string is from June 2012. You have a good point but no one is going to see it.

Hello, i Have nerve damage all over my body to. I get cramps and sore muscles to. I go to pain management every 1-3 months to see my pain specialist. You might try to see if you are eligible for pain management. I take a drug called "Baclofen" for muscle spasms and spasticity. I take 10mg. 4 times a day. I started a t a lower dose but gradually went up to this dosage. Since i've started taking this much, I no longer feel any cramps!!! As far as my nerve damage goes, i started taking a drug called "Neurontin". It does have a generic for it called "Gabapentin". I have been taking it for 3 years now and it's done good for me but recently, my doctor put me on a drug called "Lyrica". Thanks, Jack.
I've got pain every day back pain and nerve pain in my leg. Can't settle at night . Been given Baclofen & Lyrica & naproxen it helps if I take the 3 of them at night .
I have severe nerve damage in my left leg from siadica. I'm now having very bad spasms in it. Is the cause the nerve damage?
Welcome mr.ie to the site, & don't worry about your spelling or grammer on here! We all make a mistake or two. We have often commented we wish there was a spell check on here to help some of us out! What is your diagnosis? Do you have back problems or is it just severe muscle cramps? I get them too from several different diseases, & I use the generic of flexeril. It works well for me, as it's pretty hard to walk out a cramp in the neck! Anyway, you have gotten lots of great responses. The vitamin D, & calcium are very important, & I also take vitamin C at 1,000 mg a day. If I forget to take it, I can count on waking up with calf muscle cramps in the middle of the night. Just another idea, & hope these answers help you out... Mary
leg cramp medicine work if you take 3 pills it helped with my Charlie horses spasms I call them, but I have them in right side of back and spasms turn black and blue ruhmatologist can help try that
Also, be sure they do a full blood panel. Cramps increase for me when low in calcium and Vit. D. Since my muscles are under full attack, keeping those levels up is important. Mine are always borderline no matter what I take for supplements and routinely go on megadoses of Vit D from doctor.
Also be sure potassium is in balance as well as your thyroid is normal.
Sounds pretty crummy. Hang in there a good doc is your key right now. Let us know how you are doing...
I agree u also may need to add magnesium to that. I usually am depleted w/ this & the ones u mentioned & have to get it intravenously. Hydration plays a big part in lessening your being prone to cramping.
Dear mr.ie,
You might want to ask you're doctor about Robaxin. I take it for muscle spasms and it works really well. Everyone is different. But I like it a lot. I hope you find something to help you. I know it's no walk in the park. Take care and best wishes. Ruth
First see your doctor. For your many listed ailments, you might want to discuss the use of Neurontin for neuralgia, and Robaxin or Soma for muscle spasms. And you need to find the source of your problems, as it could be quite serious.
Peace,
Sweet Hippie
