Good afternoon, I've been prescribed Naproxen and Amitriptyline for a tension headache which has persisted for quite a while. How long does it take for the Naproxen to work as I take this through the day. I was prescribed this drug last time I had my tension headache and it seems like a short fix solution. Is there anything else I can do?

There are other things you can do besides medications. Massage of your neck and shoulders, stretching exercises of your neck and upper back, and ice to your neck until its numb. You do an ice massage, bare ice and rub it up and down the muscles in your neck. If you keep taking the amitriptyline that isn't a short term fix either. I went thru several weeks with an absolutely severe blinding headache that no med stopped. The only thing that stopped it was going to physical therapy and he taught me about the ice.
Thank you for the idea, I will try an Ice massage tonight, do you know how long the naproxen takes to kick in after taking it? I've been prescribed the 500mg tablets. I've taken one tablet already today at 11:00 and I still have a the headache however it's not as severe as usual.
