I went to that doc Nov 12 (this past Monday) because my vagina was really itchy. The Doctor said I have bacteria (not an std) they checked my pee & everything. It was prescribed 1 full tube every night for 5 days & to apply on vulva twice a day.Today will be the 5th night. But Ive noticed that I have this cottage cheese looking discharge. Is That normal? is the gel getting rid of the beacteria?

I was diagnosed with bv after a rountine pap but had no symptoms what so ever. Started the metrogel... itching... pelvic pain..heavy creamy discharge... feel like crap... is it possible that i am having a reaction to the gel? Is it possible that i got a false positive and now i am having an allergic reaction? I have used this medication in the past with no issues... i dont understand what the hell is going on.
Make sure there is no std present... if not..try metro tablets
No! It has nothing to do with having sex for those wondering or those who said so! The white clumpy stuff u see, is the result of the gel working after basically eating away the bacteria... Trust, been using this for years and unfortunately for us that's the way the medication comes out EVERY time, so yes this is very normal! No worries tho sweeties!
How long until the discharge is over? My last dose was 5 days ago and im still getting the white cottage discharge. No itching or burning tho...
I'm so glad this discussion post exist. I am on day 1 of 5 for the gel; and my doctor also gave me an antifungal pill to take. One for today and one more pill to take in 48 hrs. I didn't have a clue what was happening with my vag; I've never had anything like this happen before. I was on the pill for less than a year and after getting off it these issues started about 2-3 weeks later; the excessive discharge; uncomfortable sex due to lack of lubrication/increased friction; itching. I was wondering if this mostly happened to people after getting off birth control. Was the infection triggered by birth control? This worries me a little because if I'm back on the pill at some point in my future I don't want this to happen again.
Hello, I'm also taking the gel for five nights, and I don't think the birth control triggered the infection. I've never taken birth control, and I still got the infection anyways. I wouldn't worry about it.
This has started happening to me more frequently since I stopped taking birth control. The minute I get my period, im gonna go back on birth control and see if it makes a difference. I’ll let you know.
I will be truthful, we are human beings that need natural healing, it may cost but a naturalist is very much worth it, keep depending on meds. When they are dangerous instead of doing research to get well can put us all at risk. Try looking up natural solutions as well, they last longer from change of consistent diet. The body doesn't heal well with non natural substance. I think you all should read up and YouTube NATURAL ways to cure the bv because when I went into the doctor she said everything looked clean and pink until I used the gel... which wasn't right for me. Oregono oil is superior to all antibiotics, but don't use it in the vaginal area untill you research or consult with a naturalist. Time to trust yourself and body! Everyone is different so do your RESEARCH <3... if there's people curing their own cancer naturally, then people can cure their own Bv naturally.
I started this med Monday night. Coming upon day 4 I noticed more of the discharge too. It's resembled a yeast infection. Its not burning and not an itch. No smell. I am now wearing panty liners. I hope I don't get a yeast infection.
Read the thread I posted!
I'm going through the same thing . Took for 5 days . Once a night . And here I am 3 days out with this same discharge and it's scary. I'm also 9 weeks pregnant so it's even more Aggravating. I'm so worried
It's normal so don't stress yourself out ☺️ It usually stops a couple days after you stop the meds. If you start itching though it is probably a yeast infection starting so call your dr and ask them to give you something for that.
I have been using the metronidazole gel off and on and I also get the white clumpy looking discharge. I don't call it cottage cheese because it isn't a yeast infection. It is only the metro gel working.
Question - do any if you ladies who experience these rather frequent BV and yeast infections also have an IUD? I just had my first IUD put in a couple of months ago and now these problems are starting for me that I have never had in the past. Wondering if this is the case for anyone else?
I have the iud and this is the 1st time I'm using the zidoval gel. Previously I was given the cream to insert but that gave me thrush all the time and I could never finish the full course. I would end up self medicating by sticking a vitamin c tablet in there and I would be fresh for three months. I'm on day two of the gel and I'm worried that I may have moved the iud out of place. I've always been prone to getting BV but when I have sex that's when the BV come and even worse. I don't know what to do
My chronic BV also began after getting an IUD.
I don’t have an IUD, I’ve had a hysterectomy. I don’t even have a cervix anymore, just my vagina. I do have diabetes though, so my pH is always off.
This is my 1st day should I be wearing a pad
I finished mine last month. I would start wearing one the 3rd day. That's when the discharge started for me and it looked like clumps of toilet paper. I had that till I finished the gel and then my period started 5 days early. Ever since things have been normal thank God!
Thank you for sharing. It's difficult to talk about this and uncomfortable to say the least. I thought I was the only one with the thick clumpy discharge. I almost thought it was toilet paper too. It almost seems like it got worse once I started using g the gel. I'm on day 4 of the once a day treatment and the white discharge seems to be getting thicker, more like thick clumps. I'm hoping it will stop a few days after I finish treatment. I highly recommend taking probiotics and getting an RX for Difucan to prevent a yeast infection. Again , thank you for sharing and letting others know we aren't alone.
The cottage cheese-like discharge alone with no other symptoms is perfectly normal and will subside a couple days after you have completed treatment. This is the gel that has changed composition and is slowly working its way out of your body. DO NOT TRY TO SCOOP IT OUT. Leave the medicine to do its work and allow it to come out on its own. It is also for this reason that it is recommended to avoid intercourse until you have completed treatment. I recommend wearing a pantiliner at all times.
Do not attempt to douche as this may cause your BV to return. Douching with hydrogen peroxide may hide your symptoms but it does not permanently eliminate BV and is not recommended.
It is not uncommon for a yeast infection to develop following treatment with antibiotics. If your cottage cheese-like discharge is accompanied by itching and discomfort, it is highly likely that a yeast infection has developed. If this is the case, call your doctor and they can send a prescription for Diflucan to your pharmacy to treat the yeast infection.
I was on the gel for 5 days on the fifth day my discharge stopped. Three days later it started again and was really itchy now I have the discharge again. Could it be a yeast infection?
Yes you need to call your doctor and get a pill for it
I don't have a response but more of a question for you ladies that have tried this before. When using this gel (tonight will be the first time), do I need to sleep with a panty liner on? What exactly should I expect?
I just finished my 5 day treatment and I was fine without any panty liners. I wore one the first night but the gel never came out. I'd suggest loose shorts so your area can still breathe while the gel does it's work.
I know this post is old but wanted to comment. When using this medication in my opinion, a panty liner at night isn't allowing the area to breathe. I'd suggest a 100 % cotton washcloth and a pair of loose cotton sleep shorts. The keywords are cotton and loose. Apply immediately before you get into bed.
I know this is an old post but there are somewhat recent questions, I have used the Metrogel numerous times as my Ph always seems to be thrown off that's where BV derives from, the Metrogel is of course a gel that is inserted into the vagina that has active ingredients to regulate the bacteria in the vagina, the cottage cheese like discharge is the Gel itself exiting the caging as there is no where for it to go, it does not disappear the form it has taken may be due to the ingredients in the gel along with the bacteria in the vagina. In my experience after the 5 days of taking the gel I would still have the discharge for about 2 days, you have to give your body the time to cleanse itself naturally and do not try to "take it out" if the symptoms of BV have subsided after the treatment and you now have burning and itching most likely you have a yeast infection as there has to be balanced bacteria in the vagina to help find infection, contact you doc for diflucan
Hope this helped
I just had my yearly and found out I have BV. I've never had it before and I'm scared
Don't feel bad I have had this since I seen my gyno in march!!! I have tried everything... I'm about to try the metrogel I'm terrified of the side effects tho.
I'm on day 4 and so far the only thing I have is the discharge stuff everyone else is saying they have. Tomorrow will be my last dose of this so I'm praying it worked!! And I hope it never happens again.
But I too was ferried of the side effects. I'm the type of person who hates taking any kind of meds and if I do have to I never read the side effects cuz it will scare me so bad I won't take it. Ended up doing it with this then freaked myself out which then led me to going on google and that made it even worse. I almost didn't take it the first night but ended up doing it.
I hope it don't either I don't wish this on any woman it's terrible... I hate feeling as tho I have "rotten crotch"... embarrassing
I'm having the same problem, I swear before I came on here I thought I was the only girl experiencing this
You sure aren't and I'm telling you after having it for 9 months and trying everything and can't get it back to normal it really wears on you
Yes same here had it since April :(
I feel your pain. I have tried apple cider vinegar and Epsom salt with mustard seed powder and yogurt and tea tree oil and peroxide and rephresh and odor block wash by vagisil and still battling it
Yea I haven't tried home remedies yet but the wash and probiotics
What did the doc say it's "normal"?
I finished the 5 day treatment Saturday and had the cottage cheese lookin discharge and also some brownish discharge. Then started my period on Monday which was 5 days early. I'm praying once my period is over everything is back to normal down there. My friend had this before too and she said she douched with the peroxide water solution every night for two weeks and hers finally went away. I'm too scared to try that
Don't be terrified. The side effects are mild, and mildly irritating at best. Definitely follow the directions and heed warning (alcohol, careful for dizziness, refrain from driving or operating anything dangerous). But otherwise, don't worry.
I know this is an old question but so glad I came across it! I just finished the 5 day gel 2 days ago and this evening noticed the cottage cheese discharge. I stuck a finger in because there was so much it felt like something stuck in there. Sorry for the tmi but it freaked me out so I tried getting as much out as I could. I didn't discover this on here until afterward. I'm wondering if me trying to dig it out will mess with the medicine doing its job??
Do not scoop it out... it wont do its job completely
Diagnosed with both BV and yeast. Doctor gave 10 Diflucan pills and 5 days of metronidazole. Took my last application of Metro gel on Wednesday night (still 4 more days of Diflucan) but I am still having discharge and cottage cheese on Sunday night. Starting to get worried this will never go away... Eeekkkkk!
I dont know if this will help but sometimes meds take time to even after you have completed it, but when it does stop for the rest of us that is still using the meds, you can let us know so we have an idea as to when it finally stopped.
