I had a lot of mucus. I took 2 regular Mucinex on Friday night. within about 30 minutes my voice was hoarse, and my throat was sore. I stopped taking those, and went back to the store to get Mucinex DM. I have not been able to talk normally since, I took the 1st Mucinex.
What can cause me to lose my voice after taking mucinex?

The same happened to me plus my daughter's are singers and they took it and voices still not right.

Mucinex works by thining the mucous. This creates a post nasal drip and coughing. That's going to give you a sore throat and hoarseness. Coughing is your bodies way of getting rid of the mucous.
