so does this mean you would take the same dosage? if you are taking 100mg succ er tabs twice a day, would you still take metoprolol tart twice a day even though it is not er?

Yes, they are the same. ER stands for "extended release". This means that the tablet is formulated in such a way that a constant amount of drug is released from the tablet over a long period of time.
