I have been taking Warfarin about nine months, these complaints continue. Daily activities wear me out quickly. Any help for this? Last month I learned I have early stages of CHF. Does Warfarin have any effect on that condition?
Is being tired, weak, and gaining weight since taking warfarin to be expected?

Hi jmac - My mother is on Coumadin and is tired a lot of the time, but I'm sure its related to the state of constant afib. That's tough on the heart, which can make you tired. Whenever I ask the Dr. about this, he says its her enlarged heart (which happens anyway as we get older, but hers is worse) that causes the fatigue, not the med. She couldn't take the Pradaxa. It made her sick to her stomach, so glad its working for you. Do you have more energy?
My energy has improved mainly, I think, because of taking Flecainide and not Atenolol. Atenolol brings on exhaustion.) Flecainide alleviates Afib. And yes, Afib can be very tiring. Before this med or Pradaxa I took Warfarin/Coumadin and Atenolol. These too cause tiredness. In fact, the nurses in the Coumadin Clinic said tiredness is the No. 1 complaint they hear about Coumadin. The Pradaxa & Flecainide inhibit energy, (but less than Coumadin) cause nausea in many, (including me, but livable, Tums help), and, you can eat a normal diet! Any way I've looked at these meds, being tired is a consequence of all. For a brief (3 mos.) time I was prescribed Ameoderone - Scary reaction. A new doctor specializing in Afib took me right off that, it was aggravating Afib! This is a looong answer! I'm hoping my experiences will be helpful for your mother & you.
Oh, yes. My mother was on Ameoderone for several years, and just as long as she could handle it until the neuropathy began! Horrible med, but she was having horrible afib. attacks that would last for days! Now, she takes bystolic, lanoxin and the coumadin, and although she says she can always feel the afib, it is much more in the background & lighter. Is your heart rate unpredictable, too? Its tough to get a reading on hers. Its all over the place! Thx. & all the best. Jillian
Hi Jillian, My cardiologist, the Afib one, said he would never put anyone on Ameodorone, risks way too great and benefits for Afib not good. My Afib was not at all alarming until I went on that drug! Off that scary drug, I rarely feel it. On my present meds my heartbeat has settled down. It was very irregular and daily for months. That contributed to exhaustion! Mild nausea + this tired stuff is all I'm experiencing. Thank goodness! best to you! Jan
So glad to hear you're feeling better! Now, hope you stay that way! My mom, Bless her heart, has had Afib since a heart attack in 1998. Last year, we lost my dad, she had breast cancer surgery & a pelvic fracture on top of the Afib. And, at 84, she wonders why she's tired all the time & not interested in doing much! I think that would be normal for anyone who's gone through all that! Take care, Jillian
I have been on warfrain 5 months. Want to eat more. Have gained 6 ilb. Yes, I get tired easly. I take multi vit and minerals that don't contain Vit K. Also, I hate to tell you, but I am loosing my hair some. I keep seeking advice on this problem. And I hope someone out there has some advice on hair loss. I am also on warfrain the rest of my life. Don't like it , but this is life. Good luck and I am praying for you!
Thank you for replying! I'm now taking Pradaxa & Flecainide... the first let's me have vit. K, so I'm eating healthier, the second corrects AFib so I hardly know I have it. I'm no longer hungry constantly, have now lost 16 lbs, I'd gained 40(!)... so, tho both have their share of unpleasant side effects, what I have are occasional vertigo, nausea - mainly a.m. (nope not a.m sickness... too old!) and still have great tiredness. Hate that! But this combo is better by far than warfarin & atenolol. You may want to ck. w/your doctor. And good luck to you too! A prayer is on its way. Jan
Oh, I'm taking prenatal vitamins and my hair is thickening! No vit. K!
The hair loss is gonna get better homie I went threw the same thing ... I was shot 9 times and had a blood clot in my leg . Go to the dermatologist and they give you some shampoo and some gel and you"lol be fine
