Macrolides example Erythromycin is safe for you.
The drug family that cipro and Levaquin are in are risky antibiotics. They should only be used in medical emergencies and when other antibiotics are not working.
I have similar allergies and have to take Levaquin. It is considered a big gun drug and can cause achilles and hand tendon rupture in some patients if heavy duty exercise is performed on it and for about 5-7 days post treatment but it really works well. It tends to cause fatigue and can cause gastrointestinal distress in some patients. These are not reasons to avoid taking it just things to discuss with your physician if concerned. Be well.
the quinolones antibiotic like ciprofloxacin i think is the best antibiotic and the safest for you to take...
Be very careful with Cipro and other quinolones, I developed tendon problems after taking this. It has a black box warning but they don't always put that in the bag at the pharmacy so I didn't know about it until too late. Look it up before using, wish that I had.
Please be aware of the side effects of Cipro. I NEVER had any joint problems before taking it. Now my joints hurt almost all the time. I researched it and found others with the same side effects. I believe you will hear of lawsuits in the future when enough people come forward it should be taken off the market. Please beware!!
Quinolones are dangerous!! Levoquin and Levofloxacin are quinolones and are known to cause spontaneous Achilles rupture and chronic Achilles tendonitis. I have been suffering from chronic Achilles tendonitis since I was prescribed a 10 day treatment of Levofloxacin for a UTI. Chronic pain and Achilles tendonitis for 5 straight Months and no reduction in symptoms! Do NOT take quinolones!
Sadly last year I too, was prescribed ciprofloxacin for cellulitis. Even though I had an allergic reaction to it the ER insisted it was the best med for cellulitis. Had I been told of the terrible side effects connected to it I would never have taken it. To this day I suffer from ankle tendonitis, joint and back pains! Please don't take it if you have a choice, the price of side effects is too high. If I can save one more person from suffering with cipro, I would tell everyone to avoid it!
Erythromycin, azithromycin, clarithromycin...
Your doctor will be able to choose the safest and most effective antibiotic for your symptoms and allergies.
Hello, & welcome yo the site. I too am allergic to the same anti bioitics you listed.. For some odd reason UI can take ampicillin without getting hives or a rash, but that does not mean you could. You would have to try it. Levaquin, or doxycycline are two more you should be able to take for this condition...
Do not try Levaquin! I am allergic to penicillin and was given Levaquin and within 10 minutes it sent me into anaphylactic schock. Needless to say I was immediately rushed to the emergency room for treatment. Do not be afraid to say "No" to your doctor!
My mother took Levaquin. It put her in the hospital. Gasping for air!!
God no don't take Levoquin!! It caused me to have chronic Achilles tendonitis and I have pain daily as a result! Please warn every person to avoid Levoquin and Levofloxacin! Read about it.
