I take effexor 75 mg for help for chronic migraine. This medication does help well with that, but causes horrible constipation.
How to find reliable relief from severe constipation from Effexor rx 75 mg?

I'd recommend an alteration in the foods you are eating if you have yet to consider it. Cereals like Fibre One, Musilex and Allbran all work well also rare vegetables like Broccoli in conjunction with the cereals will work well.
Looks like all my DC friends answered your question. I too take a stool softner to help with constipation from effexor. Best wishes - God Bless - Nena
I have to go to great lengths to work with my constipation. It is a many-pronged approach. I'm Bipolar and have Fibro. and take 5+meds that cause it. Citrucel three times a day. Five fiber wafers a day. Four prunes morning and evening. Prune juice at night. I have to drink lots of water as well. I want to stop taking herbal laxatives I've been taking (2-4 at night). They contain a carcinogenic herb and should have been pulled off the market in 2001. I can get down to one but that's it. Also, don't buy off-brand prune juice or prunes. They don't work as well as Sunsweet brand.
Hi Maria, I had constipation issues before needing to take meds. My meds make it even worse. Sometimes I eat a bowl of cherrios with lots of raisins in it. Apricot Nector is great and you don't get the gas like you do from prune juice. Prunes are excellant for constipation. Miralax and over the counter stool softners are good choices as well. Milk of Magnesia works but I can't always stomach it. Increasing fluid intake and roughage(sp?) such as raw veggies and fruit work great. I like to have a spinich salad with mandarin oranges and raisins or dates. I have a glass that holds 3 cups of liquid. I can't drink too much fruit juice or gatorade so I water them down. 1/3 juice or gatorade and 2/3 water. I have blood sugar issues but am not a diabetic so watering down the juice etc. works for me. I am not a fan of drinking water. I don't like the taste of water so I put some juice or other liquid in with the water.
I try to drink at least 3 of these large glasses a day. I can tell a big difference if I don't drink at least 3 large glasses a day. So as you can see, I do a variety of things to ward off constipation. I eat and drink what I can tolerate for the day. I hope you find something here that will help you. Blessings , Rollerskater.
Hi Maria,
My meds cause constipation also so I used sennoside and a stool softener. It saves me.
Good luck.
I had that same issue on effexor, I drank more water and ate 5 prunes per day, it worked, sounds nutty but it did the trick.
Laurie is right milk of mag tablets plus I combine it with an herbal remedy called aloe lax together they work like a charm. Good Luck-K
I recommend lots of water and some Milk of Magnesia. Increasing your water intake will probably be enough but if not Milk of Magnesia is gentle and effective.
