check for drug interactions first, if you take it with Carbamezapine, it will render it hydrophilic, so it will not be effective, else 5 mg will not effect much.
Hi Aries... the previous two posters said all that can be said about abilify consumption, and very well at that. It's an anti-psychotic for some, meant to enhance the effects of a mood stabilizer for those with bipolar, and as Laurie said, enhances the effects of anti-depressants for those who consume them.
5mgs is an extremely low dosage... many people take as much as up to 30mgs for various reasons.
I doubt that there would be many beneficial effects to be gotten for someone not needing the drug. It's not a drug like xanax, which is used on the street illegally (to get high? I don't know!). But as with any pill, you should never use medicine which is not yours and prescribed to you, because for all we know here, it could have some sort of a negative impact if done regularly. In fact, I read recently that the FDA are now taking a hard look at the extended things that abilify is now being used for...
like autism and anorexia treatment. They are recommending that it's prescription by doctors be scaled back to it's original purpose-schizophrenia and bipolar. So there must be something about the drug that they are unhappy with, if they are concerned that it is being over-prescribed.
Hey Aries,
Abilify (aripiprazole) is prescribed to help control mood and enhance the effects of an antidepressant. If taken regularly it will help control mood swings particularly mania and if taken with an antidepressant will help increase its efficacy. If taken by someone not prescribed and only on occassion, there would be little effect. It won't get you high or anything like that, although it might make the person a bit drowsy.
Hope this helps,
Laurie
Hello Aries-1978. There would be side effects. Be Abilify prescribed or not by the person taking it. some of those might be a headache, feeling drowsy, dizziness, nausea. These are normal, common ones. As to mixing the two, meaning Aripiprazole and Abilify, there have not been any reports to date, of them having any side effects. Pro or con. Doesn't mean there aren't any, just none being talked about. You might ask your doctor or pharmacist to confirm, or ask thier opinion. Best of wishes, pledge
Abilify (aripiprazole) is a common medication licensed for the treatment of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, autism, and major depression (when used with antidepressants). Although it is not a cure for these conditions, it can control symptoms and help keep them from returning. The tablets come in a number of strengths and are generally taken once a day. Possible side effects include nausea, insomnia, headaches, and anxiety.
Take care, best wishes!
