My pharmacist said that I can cut the 1mg in half and take just that for 2 weeks or so and then stop entirely. I know 1mg is not a large dose but I have been taking it (or something like it) for 30 years. Is anyone on this site who has discontinued clonazepam 1mg with success?
I have taken 1 mg clonazepam for many years. I am going to discontinue this drug?

I strongly agree with both masso and suemp. Discontinuing a benzodiazepine is very difficult for most people especially long term users. I'm not a doctor or pharmacist but I wonder if your pharmacist's recommendation might not be long enough to avoid discontinuation symptoms. Maybe you should talk to your doctor and request their advice on a better taper schedule.
PS, masso and suemp. I'd vote your answers up but I don't have that option all of a sudden. I also can't comment. Any ideas?
It could be the answers and comments are controversial and not approved by the site administrators and they could have censored you.
I voted you up and also strongly agree with you and suemp, thank you for voting me up, even if I can not see it, you have a good heart.
Or perhaps it is a glitch.
You are correct that 1 mg is not a lot….but even so, that would be very difficult to stop using the advice of your pharmacist. Clonazepam comes in .5 mg tablets. You might want to get a prescription for those. I have been using them for 3 years and cut them in quarters. That means each dose is .125 mg. Even that is difficult to wean off from. My suggestion would be to firstly, consult with a physician for a good taper schedule. You could cut down to .75 mg daily for a month, then .5, then .25 and finally .125mg. Once you are that low for a month or so, you taper again by taking that dose every other day, then every 3 days, etc. It can be done if you are determined. I wish you well and good luck.
I voted you up too, and definitely agree with you as I mentioned to Wildcat.
I was on 1mg of the same benzo you are on for 25 years, didn't take enough time to discontinue and it was a nightmare. I disagree with your Pharmacist.
My suggestion is that you speak to your DR. and do it gradually under medical supervision with a discontinuation schedule from your DR.. We all know everyone reacts differently to medications, but one would think that only 1mg can be discontinued in the manner you were advised is not the proper way, specially after long term use, benzodiazepines if not discontinued the way I mentioned to you, they are a nightmare you do not want live.
Best of luck, masso
