I would tend to agree with your psychiatrist. In my experience, at first Gabapentin gave me this ‘drunk’ feeling that I didn’t like at all and I felt like I couldn’t see straight. But that went away after about a week and I felt normal afterwards. It’s a pretty effective medication. The loopy feeling at first may be making you more anxious, so it becomes a vicious circle. But it’s only temporary.
You could ramp up your medication more slowly to minimize the side effects. Let’s say start with 1 pill at bedtime for a week, then two pills (dinner time and bedtime) for a week, then your 3 pills a day. Check with your psychiatrist to make sure they’re ok with you doing this.
Gabapentin is a good medication I've been on it over 10 years for mood swings if you take it right works good but people are different if it's making you feel worse then yeah I would stop taking it but you're not going to withdraw from Gaps that short of time you would have to be on it for at least month if your coming off of it after a few days you should be fine my friend
