Can I take doxycycline hyclate 100mg for a staph infection?

Yes but I will say that penicillin is first line drug for staph infection.
Doxycycline (or other tetracyclines type) is use for MRSA (when Staph aureus is developed and resistance to betalactam antibiotic such as penicillin ,other drugs that end with Cillin and cephalosporin)
I think it's better to take first line drug :) if you take doxycycline and you get MRSA in the future it will be hard to treat.
