I have a current script for Xanax, but took a few Valiums the other night because they help me sleep better. I got called for a job today, and I am sure they are going to make me do a drug screen. Will my prescription for Xanax cover the Valium? I know they are both benzos.
Do Xanax and Valium show up the same on a drug screen?

Yes they can tell the difference. No doubt. My family doctor caught one of my family members. Don't chance it. Some test can get very detailed information. And the tests will only keep getting better. Good luck.
If the employer only uses the immunoassay (cup or dipstick for POCT testing) you will show up positive for Benzodiazepines. However, if the employer sends out the sample for confirmation with a lab (which usually use LC/MS/MS or similar high-end equipment) they will be able to differentiate between alprazolam and its metabolite alpha-hydroxyalprazolam versus diazepam and its many metabolites including nordiazepam, oxezapam, temazepam, etc. Some with a half-life of 300+ hours. Hopefully, the employer will not waste the money associated with laboratory confirmation and only use a immunoassay qualitative test. Just have your Xanax prescription handy. If it is a qualitative (immunoassay) and not a quantitative (LC/MS/MS), you just need to verify you are prescribed a benzodiazepine, which you will test positive for (BZO or BZD on cup or dipstick).
That is NOT true. Alprazolam ( xanax) will show up different from diazepam, clonazepam, any benzodiazepine. Sometimes klonopin does not show. But they can tell if you are taking a different Benzo than prescribed. I'm a nurse, no judgement just a heads up.
The company I work for developed, what is supposed to be, the most accurate 12 panel unine test cup on the market, and it cannot tell the difference between Vailum and Xanax as both are benzo’s. However, if the cup is sent to a lab, they will be able to see the different mentabolites between the two. So, if the test isn’t being sent to a lab, you’re safe. If it is, I wouldn’t risk it.
They are both benzodiazepines. It will only know that you're taking two different benzodiazepines if they specifically test for each 1 and some of them do. It's a more involved drug test. Typically, if you show up with any kind of drug in your system whether it be benzodiazepines, opiates or anything else they will do a more detailed test to test for specific drugs not types of drugs.
My doctor gives me drug screen was wondering since I'm on valium is Xanax gonna make me come up dirty
They can't tell what you taken..only test for the compounds within the pill..and if it's for a job..a traditional test looks for benzodiazipines..and if you have a script for Xanax. You don't need try o worRy about anything..so prepare yourself. You just got a job!
It will show up only as a benzo on the drug screen. They are most likely just doing a routine urine test. As long as you tell them about your script for xanax and have proof of it, you should be fine. Good luck hope you get the job.
yes you should be fine they cant tell the difference between xanax or valiium. the onluy thing they can check for is benzos. and since both of them are benzos you should be fine
Not true I have a prescription for Xanax and was recently overseas and lost my prescription and went to a local pharmacy they did not have xanax but did have valiun and assured me they were the same once i returned I had to take a drug screen for a job and it showed up as diazepam which i don't have a prescription for and tested positive now have to go through a drug abuse program.
My husband lost his job because of this exact situation. He had been employed with the company for 16 years. They called him and ask him to send proof of both Xanax and the Valium. I guess it's just depends on the drug testing company.
That is incorrect. I just took a UA for a stupid gas station job... and they told me I was positive for both valium and xanax. I ran out of my xanax & couldn't make it to the doctor, so I took one (seriously, just one) valium. Guess what? Even after SEVERAL days, it still showed up, so now I can't work for the stupid gas station. What a crock.
Yeah, its a sad day in America when companys, and our government can tell us, " as free people" what we can and can't take, say, do and enjoy our so called freedom!!! They WILL show up different, half-life of benzos is long time g.i.
