i was taking regular trazodone but my doctor switched me to trazodone hcl.
What is the diference between reguar trazodone and trazodone hcl?

There is no difference as trazodone hcl could be the generic of trazodone/Desyrel - which is the brand name.
However please do check this with the doc/pharmacist who prescribed the meds.
