Still have not gotten a definitive answer from Medical professionals as to whether it is okay to cut Viibryd tablets. Does anyone know if the effect is somehow compromised if you cut Viibryd in half? Specifically, I am wondering if cutting a 40 mg Viibryd pill in half provides the same effect as taking a fully coated 20 mg tablet.

Hi Rathmullan: I found this info - "What is the half-life of vilazodone? The half-life of vilazodone is 24 hours, which is why it is not provided in an extended-release form." I assume that since Viibryd is not time-released, it is safe to cut it in half. The time-released tablets usually tell you in the instructions when a particular tablet can not be split in half, such as my prescription for Wellbutrin SR always stated, which was time-released. I cut my buspirone tabs in half all the time with no problem, as that is another example of a med that can be cut since it is not time-released. If it is not stated in your paperwork you received with your prescription, it should be fine to cut it in half without compromising the effects. One more thought: Is your Viibryd tablet scored with a line down the middle on one side? Sometimes this tells you if one can be split or not. Good luck.

Thanks GMc. Yes, that's kind of the first test to determine whether a pill can be cut, i.e., is it sustained release or not. However I worry that there may be more at play here. The manufacturer recommends that the pills not be cut in half and, as such, does not "score" the pills to facilitate cutting. But the manufacturer does not give a reason as to why they should not be cut. This is frustrating when one is prescribed 30 mg and the manufacturer does not provide the medication in a 30 mg pill.

That definitely makes no sense! Hope you get a reasonable solution soon.
