I've been taking Contrave for about a week. So far no side effects, but not much change in my appetite either. I was hoping for instant hunger disappearance!! Does it take a while for the effectiveness to kick in? Thanks!

Unfortunately I took it for 6 weeks and my appetite never diminished. So I stop taking it
I started Contrave one week ago. I have no appetite at all and have to remember to eat and drink water! This started the 2nd day! No snacking, no craving bread, sweets! This is wonderful!
I've been on it exactly a week tomorrow. I noticed that I no longer struggle to fight off the urge to "pig out" I noticed that I stop when I am full and I'm content until I actually get hungry later, around the next meal time. I am very pleased with this. It's always been a constant battle in my head not to pig out and I'm either fighting that urge or giving into it. Now I don't feel like I have that battle. If I overeat or eat processed food, I feel overfull and not the best. If I stick to Whole Foods I don't feel yucky. This is also new with this medication, but I am ok with that. Points me in the right direction. I'm making betters choices and I'm feeling better already.
I did have some pretty good headaches and felt out of it early on. I didn't seem to have a filter and would speak my mind lol. I want this so bad and I'm liking the results so far, that these side effects as my body gets going on this medication, are completely doable in my book.
I don't know if this helps you at all, but I wanted to share what I'm experincing so far.
I've been on Contrave for one week, I start my 2 pills a day dosage today. I was a previous phentermine user and had good success with it, although I always gained the weight back eventually. My new doctor would not prescribe phentermine for me, he told me people that take stimulants such as phentermine will almost always gain the weight back. Plus he said at my age (I'm 52) I should not be taking stimulants any longer. I have noticed a bit of a decrease in appetite the first week, but it does not feel like I've lost any weight since my appetite in the evening is huge! I also have had minimal side effects... slight headache, some constipation, but nothing major at this point that would make me stop taking Contrave. I'm hoping my appetite decreases more as the dosage increases. Also hoping the side effects stay at a manageable level. I will continue to report my results on a weekly basis.
Did the appetite effect kick in yet?
This is more towards those complaining they've gained weight.
I want to remind you that this is NOT a miracle drug. For it to work and be successful, you've still got to make an effort. Be mindful of everything you eat, count those calories and get some exercise. Eat lots of protein (It keeps you fuller longer) and don't forget, you didn't gain it overnight, it's not gonna come off overnight.
To answer your question though..It usually takes 2-3 weeks before your appetite decreases.
Do you know what they do for maintenance ? I don't see a lot of info. I love not ever thinking about eating and having next to no appetite , but I am nervous about what happens when I am done.
I have read many of posts and I'm not seeing anyone who is losing a significant amount of weight , 23 lbs in 5 months is not what I call a lot .
Within a couple days of starting I was so nauseous that I had no appetite at all. Yesterday was my second increase and I've eaten almost nothing because of nausea and stomach pain. I'm trying to stick it out with hopes that it will eventually get better.
It takes an average of 2 weeks to kick in.
I'm on day three. I have had next to zero appetite during the day, and less than normal in the evenings. I've got slight nausea, but so far that's the only negative.
It's apparent in these responses it doesn't work for everyone.
I noticed a change in the second week and more so in the 3rd.
I've lost around 20 lbs in a month with no exercise.
Hi MelamieKS,
Just curious if you are still taking Contrave and how you are doing with it? Thanks.
Hi MelamieKS,

The main ingredient in Contrave is used to treat opioid overdoses. Do some research and you have to wonder what is in our food and what is it doing to our bodies!
I appreciate everyone's input. I was starting to think I was a lost cause. I've only been on for a week so I see it will take some time - but this drug does seem to do what it should do.
I have another appointment with my weight management specialist next week and was a little discouraged I could not report progress.
It makes me feel good now it is not a quick fix, but a very reliable and effective aid to help me change some learned habits and start recognizing why I eat.
I wish everyone well on your journey. Best!
I am at the end of Week 4 (2 pills AM, 2 pills PM) and my appetite has gone way down. I am eating smaller meals. I do get cravings late at night so I make sure to eat something healthy like peanut butter on an apple or some some cheese. I don't buy any junk food because if it's there I WILL eat it. I haven't weighed myself but I do think I've been steadily losing weight since Week 3.
It has taken me 2 weeks to lose my hunger.
