... my heart is beating out of my chest and then i feel like its stopped all together and i instantly panic and then i have a panic attack ... I am on the citalophram for depression but have not had a panic attack before starting the citalophram ... Is this a side effect if the drug ? I want to come off it now because of these panic attacks but am worried my depression will worsen !

I had the same thing with Prozac for a couple of weeks. Very scary but these are side effects of these types of drugs. I did see my cardiologist, and explained to him the skipped beats etc that was scaring me. I wore a monitor for 2 days and it showed nothing. I am now a week into Zoloft with no palpitations at all. Go get checked out to set your mind at ease, it can become a vicious cycle of worry and anxiety that will make it worse. Talk to your doc and whatever you do DO NOT STOP them on your own.

Hi, in this case you should see your doctor asap. Citalopram can alter the heart rhythm and affect the heart in other ways, so it is important you get checked out. Panic attacks, anxiety, depression, etc can worsen when first starting antidepressants, but with the accompanying heart side effects, this doesn't sound 'normal'. Hope all is well

I've found some really weird side effects accompany these meds, but I don't know a lot. I've found calling in to your doctor gets you places. They may want you to see the doctor.

Hi .yes I’ve had palpitations with them especially in the mornings, I persevered for over a month but they didn’t go and I had to reduce the dose . It is one of the side effects .it took a while before I managed to get the dose right. I found I had to cut down by. 1/4 of a 20mg tablet at a time . Whatever you do don’t come straight off them. I reduced them at first too quickly and the depression kicked in . I hope you get things sorted x
