I tried twice to swallow the big tablets with water, but they got caught in my throat. I have been crushing them in order to take the prescribed dose. Does crushing the tablets lessen their effectiveness?
Can the acyclovir tablets be crushed and mixed with water if the pills are too big to swallow?

I suppose the answer would be a definite yes... but it would taste awful unless you mix with applesauce or pudding or something like that. Yes, they Re like horse pills but work like a charm when you feel a fever blister coming on... good luck... pup
Yes, you may crush them. I would recommend putting them in a soft food like pudding or applesauce. Swallow this mixture as soon as you mix it up-dont allow it to sit. There is a suspesion available (liquid form of the medicine). You might want to ask your Dr about prescribing the liquid for you since you have trouble swallowing the pills.
