I have been on Wellbutrin XL 300 mg for many years for depression /GAD. I was recently prescribed metoprolol succinate ER 25 mg to hopefully calm my system down and decrease the physical effects of my GAD, elevated heart rate and elevated blood pressure. There is an interaction that popped up between these meds. Just curious if anyone else takes these 2 meds or has advice. I thought I would start taking them further apart from each other, but I didn’t know if it mattered.
Anyone else take metoprolol succinate ER and wellbutrin XL together?

It matters because both use together causes elevation serum levels of metoprolol. As a result, increases metoprolol side effects
Hi, Lizzy!
25mg is a very low dose of metoprolol and probably won't be a problem with your Wellbutrin. I take a low dose of a similar beta-blocker, atenolol, along with my bupropion (Wellbutrin) and have never had any problem (low blood pressure or hypotension, etc.) with the combination.
Your doctor is likely aware of this potential interaction but you should probably talk with her/him about your concern.
Best regards,
Wildcat
PS, Wellbutrin has a long half life and it would take a few days for it to be completely out of your system so it may not matter when you take the two of them.
Thank you!! Sometimes it helps just knowing others are out there taking similar combos and doing ok. A lot of my hesitancies and issues are bc of my anxiety. I read too much, know too much and suffer from an anxiety disorder, so it’s a bad combination. I really struggled starting the propranolol and then they changed me to metoprolol so it was even more anxiety. I am super sensitive to meds and side effects scare me. I just wish I could get my anxiety disorder under control.
Your anxiety is doing the talking... join the club! There are a lot of us out here struggling with it.
For what's it's worth, I'm on a combination now that's working very well for me.
You'll get there too... just give it a bit of time.
Thanks! I sure hope so. I’m glad you found a combination that works good for you. Psych meds scare me but being on a heart med does too. I feel like I’m just a big ole mess.
I have noticed since starting the beta blockers I’m having more itching, redness and warmth if something gets my circulation going, for example taking my blood pressure caused it. Do you have any idea if this normal and will go away or ???
Itching, at least, is a common side effect but it's seems strange that your symptoms happen only in stress situations.
I would guess that it would go away as your anxiety gets more under control but it's worth mentioning to your doctor.
You're not a big mess... you just have a disorder that's being treated. Hang in there!
I’m still taking these 2 meds at the same dose. I feel like they are playing off each other and enhancing side effects or something. Any idea what the potential interaction could be between these 2 drugs or particularly any symptoms / interactions I should be concerned about? I know a lot of it is my anxiety talking but I just don’t feel right.

This is the report from the Interactions Checker which shows a moderate potential interaction between your medications.
You should let your doctor know that all is not well with you and also to ask about the interaction.
