I know it is not suggested but I have been hesitant to drink anything while on this medicine. I'm going out with friends next weekend and would love to have a drink or two at dinner. Anyone who's taking this medicine I'd love to know your experience.
Thanks!

Thanks for your response. I am taking the nortriptyline for migraine prevention not for depression. 20mg. I am not looking for a crazy night just a nice dinner with my husband and friends!
Why you are taking it doesn't effect the fact that its an anti depressant. I accepted the fact, 20 yrs ago when I started on them that I could not drink, and its hardly effected my social life.
Hello there! I’m sorry for the previous answers you have received and that you struggle with migraines. I am also prescribed Nortriptyline (20mg QHS) and I tried two glasses of wine and that’s how much I drink when I drink alcohol. I also had to take another medicine which made the alcohol have a stronger effect on me, but even then, I wasn’t plastered. I’m a 129lbs 5’8” female. I hope this helps even though it’s years later! Also, if you were wondering, the reason the bottle said not to drink with it is that Nortriptyline potentiates alcohol, meaning it will be easier to get drunk. So please, always be careful :)
Alcohol is not safe with anti depressants. It is possible to have a good time without it.
