90-day script for ADD stimulant meds... curious if others get this instead of 30-day script?

Is it myth, and not reality, that you can't get more than a 30 day supply of stimulant meds? I can, following all the "rules". I'm curious of any of you have tried to get a script for more than 30 days and what your success was. If this is myth, let's help set the record straight and save folks time and $$! For adults with ADD who have found the right med/dose, getting a three month supply makes sense.

I commonly see it written that, by law, prescriptions for all stimulant meds (Schedule II) can only be written and filled for a 30-day supply. But I never see a specific citation...

Paying for monthly doctor visits for "med management" plus a $30 prescription co-pay is a drag, so I checked into it. Sure enough, both my insurance company and the pharmacy said it was OK to get a 90-day supply! So now I'm only only paying for 4 doctor visits and four prescription co-pays per year, not 12. That's a 66% cost reduction... yea!!

The Controlled Substances Act (CSA) is the statute establishing federal U.S. drug policy under which the manufacture, importation, possession, use and distribution of certain substances is regulated. It was passed by the 91st United States Congress as Title II of the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970 and signed into law by President Richard Nixon. Class II drugs can only be dispensed for 30 days with no refills.

Thank you natty bumpo i really never knew about that and my son has been recieving his adderall every month it sure would be nice to go every 3 months instead. I really do appreciate the info i will be sure to ask his doctor about it.

my little 10 year old neice is to hyper ... and i mean HYPER to the point that it is not normal ... an the doctor put her on 5mg of lexapro ... that really ISNT making a difference ... in your opinion mrspage82... what do you think will calm her down enough that she is bearable to live with ... my mama has custody of her an shes with me 50 percent of the time

Well my son is 9 yrs. old and he has been taking adderall since december of last year. The teachers there were so suprised by such quick improvement they wanted to move him to 4th instead of 3rd grade cause he missed a grade he is supposed to really be in 4th already. My son was so much of a disturbance in class he was the only kid they put in a corner by himself everyday cause he needed individual attention. ADHD is very serious and if not properly medicated you daughter will have problems all her life making friends making good grades moving up grades. I mean it, it was pure hell getting a phone call everyday cause you kid is causing so much of a disturbance they wanted me to come pick him up. I would definantly suggest the stimulant medication for kids with more severe adhd like my son and your daughter go ahead and give it a try i promise you and your mother will be pleased with the results.

Your child will be much happier and i do suggest therapy to go along with the medication so your child as well can understand her mental illness. I also suggest applying for ssi for her my son got his for his mental illness it could help her with college if she wants to go when she gets older. I really mean it she sounds like she needs something a little more stronger like adderall,vyvanse, and ridlin just to name a few but adderall has worked wonders for my son. When or if you do put her on stimulant medication you will want to give it to her early in the morning but not to early cause you dont want it to wear off before bedtime so everyone can see how well behaved she is when on stimulant meds. also she may experience difficulty sleeping loss of appetite and pain in the stomach. The pain in the stomach will go away but the sleeping and loss of weight will need to be managed probably by another medication like my son but dont worry its not a biggie her doctor should help with that. Good luck mommy you would be doing her the biggest favor with adhd stimulant medication i promise. Please keep me updated on how she does.

thats ok (neice)... she may as well be mine ... she stays here half the week ... an other half with my mother.but my gosh somethings gotta give ... pretty soon ... i just dont think 5mg lexapro is gonna help with the problems she has ... shes been on it about 2 months ... an no change the doctor only sees her about 15 minutes every other week so he really doesnt no what we go through ... shes uncontrolable ... what do i do come right out an an ask for a different medicine ... me an my mama allready told him 5mg lexapro is not working
