Hi, Lee!
For most people it takes 6-8 weeks for the drug to become fully effective but it may take a bit longer for some especially if you're taking it for an anxiety disorder. If you've seen some improvement it might indicate that the drug is beginning to work. Maybe a dosage increase is needed?
Your best bet is to report your lack of progress to your doctor and get their professional advice.
Thanks wildcat I am taking for an anxiety disorder also on 100mg of quetiapine as well on been on that for just over a week desperate for some anxiety relief
Anxiety always seems to take a little longer to respond to treatment but it will with time. Paroxetine is one of the few antidepressant anxiolytics that is FDA approved for anxiety disorders and quetiapine is an excellent choice also.
Try to be patient and stay positive. You'll get through this and I bet you'll be glad you did!
Thanks
Wildcat don't seem to be getting any relief from paroxetine or quetiapine the only relief I get us from Xanax which I self medicate with is there any other good meds you can recommend my pysch us useless had me 3 months going up and down on venlafaxine which I came off because it stopped working I know you replied about quetiapine and paroxetine before should I just stay on them longer ?
Thanks again

6~8 weeks is considered a "fair trial" and if you've seen no improvement at all you need to have a sit sown with your doctor to discuss your options.
Do not stop the paroxetine abruptly if you're thinking of that because you could potentially have some discontinuation issues. Be very careful with the Xanax and only use it as you were prescribed. I'm not sure what you mean by self-medicating but that's a very slippery slope with a dangerous drug if abused.
Really, you need to consult with a doctor for professional advice at this point.
Take care,
