So I am needing a full dental restoration and need about 8extractions and and 12 immediate load dental implants on my upper jaw, 2 extractions and 5 immediate load dental implants on my lower jaw. I have had 3 previous prolia injections. My last prolia shot was 7 months ago do you think it will be ok to go ahead with this procedure ?
Thanks everyone
I also have been on Prolia for some time. Within the past 2 months I had a dental extraction via oral surgery. My oral surgeon was aware that I was on Prolia and asked about when I received my most recent injection. Since it had been approximately 5 months, he proceeded with the extraction and then advised my endocrinologist accordingly. Basically, my Prolia injection was delayed about a month until my mouth healed. So I would suggest having your medical provider be in contact with your dental provider and proceed accordingly. For most, dental procedures should not be a big deal.
I have had 4 Prolia shots last year. I needed a tooth pulled so they sent me to a surgeon. I had the tooth pulled and had no problems.
4 shots, Oh my... isn’t the dosage once every six months? Please rethink getting this shot. Take care of you. ((Hugs))
Sorry, 4 shots in the last 2 years, I don't believe they would give you 4 in one year. That would be a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Oh thank goodness! I had read somewhere though that this was originally created to treat bone cancer and was given bi-weekly. Can you imagine?
I needed dental surgery for an infection in the root canal. When I told my surgeon that I had had one Prolia injection 4.5 years ago, she was very wary of operating on me, but the surgery was necessary and she did do the surgery. Everything went well. I do not remember ANY warnings about dental work when I got the injection. And I didn't ask her if that meant that any surgery could be a problem. Maybe it was.
If I remember correctly some of the side effects are jaw pain and deterioration of the jaw.
Yes. I was aware of those side effects when I got the injection. But there was nothing about hazards with surgery.
I have had two prolia shots. The last one was March 2017. Went to my dentist in October 2017. Had 2 teeth capped. Also, needed a back tooth pulled. Was sent to a dental surgeon. Would not touch me. Said to have the tooth packed and try living with it as long as possible. He also said that one of his patients had been off of prolia for 4 and 1/2 years. Had a tooth pulled. He ended up with the condition caused by prolia that no one wants. Now my tooth is starting to hurt and sores breaking out on the inside of my cheek. The old thing of ""between a rock and a hard spot.
What was the condition that the man ended up with? Please let us know!! Thank you for your answer on this important topic.
An interesting question, I will be interested to read any answers.
I am 79 and two days in on my Prolia injection, I have been putting it off for fear of side effects!! however I "bit the bullet" so there I am.
Still no side effects, fingers crossed, still have not found out about dental work while on prolia.
I haven't taken any meds for my recently diagnosed osteoporosis & I also am afraid of the side effects.
I also am concerned about how long you need to go off these meds before it's safe to have dental work???
I really wish someone from Drugs.Com could answer us!
I will keep checking here for a answer!!!
I'd like an answer to this spastically:
If dental work is needed while taking these meds,
How long do you have to be off these meds before having dental work?
And how long do you have to wait before you start them back up again?
I really am hoping someone can help with these questions because I am very concerned about it.
Thank you in advance for any answers you can give.
Jelly,
I would suggest that you ask your dentist.
Yes, I know I can ask my dentist, I was just hoping to hear from people here who may have experienced this situation themselves.
