Zinc sulfate fecal flotation medium
This treatment applies to the following species:Dry concentrate
For animal use only
Keep out of the reach of children
Zinc sulfate fecal flotation medium solution (ZN118) is a premeasured amount of zinc sulfate hexahydrate to be reconstituted and used for flotation techniques of fecal analysis.
Small animals: Hookworm (Ancylostoma) • Ascarid (Toxocara) • Whipworm (Trichuris) • Coccidia (Isopora) • Giardia (Protozoa)
Horses: Strongyles and Roundworms
Tapeworm can be detected, however this is primarily identified by “rice packets” around the anal area.
Testing procedure: Thoroughly mix 2 grams of fresh feces with 15 mL of zinc sulfate fecal flotation medium solution (ZN118) into a fecal sample collection kit or other fecal flotation device. When thoroughly mixed, add enough additional zinc sulfate fecal flotation medium solution (ZN118) until a reverse meniscus forms. Float a 22 mm cover slip or slide on the meniscus. Allow to stand for at least 15 minutes for ova to float through fecal flotation device screen and adhere to cover slip. Place cover slip on microscope slide and examine under low power to look for ova. Centrifugation can be used, if desired, to save time. Lugols iodine can be added to the slide to stain giardia cysts if desired.
Directions For Use
Fill container with warm water to 1 inch from top, secure cap and shake well. Repeat shaking - do not add additional water. This will produce a specific gravity of 1.18.
See bottom of bottle for lot number.
