Symptom Checker

Step 4: Read and complete the decision guide to learn more about your symptoms.

Rash in Children

Your child's rash may be due to a condition called seborrhea, or "seborrheic dermatitis." His skin has become irritated or inflamed because the oil glands in his body are producing too much oil (also called "sebum").

If you see seborrhea just on his scalp, then it is called "cradle cap." Cradle cap is harmless, and usually goes away without treatment within a few weeks or months.

Call your doctor if your child's rash seems to be bothering him, or if you think that it's becoming worse.
