Breads, cereals, grains, and pasta consist largely of carbohydrates (special types of complex sugars), which are excellent sources of energy. Toddlers should eat six servings per day of breads, cereals, grains and pasta.

Keep in mind that serving sizes are less for smaller children.

One- and two-year olds

Bread - 1/4 to 1/2 slice

Cereal, dry - 1/4 to 1/3 cup

Cereal, cooked - 1/4 cup

Crackers 1 to 2

Pasta - 1/4 cup

Rice, brown or white - 1/4 cup

Bagels - 1/4 to 1/2

English muffin - 1/4 to 1/2
