Jaundice in Newborns

Most babies who are going to have problems with high levels of bilirubin look jaundiced before 72 hours. However, sometimes jaundice is not noticed until after 72 hours.

Before leaving the hospital, make sure that you understand what jaundice is and what to look for. Also make sure your doctor or nurse has checked your newborn for jaundice and that any risk factors for jaundice have been reviewed.

Call your doctor if you notice any jaundice after leaving the hospital.
